LogTen Pro (sorry, another electronic logbook thread)

Goonie

Never say die
Question 1. Any good? Worth the $100 (plus $39 for the mobile version too)?

Question 2. If I have about 4000 hours in paper logbooks is it necessary to spend God knows how long to put all those flight in it, or just bring over all the totals?

Speaking for LBP. . .

I think the appeal of such a system that can break everything in the world down for you is part of the reason for buying such a software program.

Now, if LogTen Pro says it can do the same breaking down and such, why would you purchase it if you're simply going to throw the totals in instead of putting the single data lines in so that it could be used a bit more properly?

Just a thought.

You know you won't keep it up to date:laff::laff:

Anyways, you can forward everything over like you would a new logbook, or you can go back and recreate it from scratch. Some companies let you pay someone to do it for you.

I have log ten pro and in my opinion it is worth the $100. I still don't have an ipod touch so haven't gotten the mobile version, Apple is supposed to release new ipods in Sep so waiting until then.

Once you learn how to use it, you'll prefer it to paper logbook. I don't even use my paper one any longer, but have 3 backups of my file just in case. It's very simple to total your time, look at your duty limitations, etc. Yeah it will be a pain to put 4000 hours in it, but in the long run it will be worth it, or you can do what I did since my previous logbook was stolen. Make a single entry with all the totals of your last page and go from there.

Also for interviews you can print out your logbook in any style, ASA, Jepp. Can even get green paper and it will print it in caligraphy and can get it bonded to look just like a logbook, the plus is no one will ever be able to find a discrepancy on your logbook during an interview.

And Noah, the owner of the company is very helpful with anything you have. Is a one man show but he works hard. So in my opinion 100 dollars is a small investement in your career.

I fully plan on using this program with the iPhone and future MacBook. Now if only one of my PCs would crash again so I can justify a new Mac! :)

If logten mobile would sync to my PC, then I would be all over it.

Does mobile allow you to put in your out/off/on/in times??

Is it worth the money? Yes!
Really good program.

Better to be putting in all the 4000 hours now, then be sitting there in a couple years with 8000, asking yourself why.
my two cents..

Yes it does.

I've been using the combo for two weeks and it is fantastic. I had all of my time in paper logbooks and LogShare. I exported my times from logshare and imported them into LogTen Pro - done.

So far it is worth the $140 total for the entire package.

I am very interested in this as well, what are the advantages of LogTen Pro over LogBook Pro?

For those of us in a Mac environment, who also have iPhones, which is the better system?

I think if you already own an iPhone and a Mac - then LogTen Pro sounds like the way to go. A slick interface and easy to use program.

I am halfway there with the phone, but need a Mac! Does chucking my laptop under a bus in Chicago count for accidental damage? :D

I have not used Logbook Pro so I dont have an educated opinion about it. I can tell you that I have already transferred about 1000 hours in LogTen Pro in a couple weeks!! It takes about 5 seconds to put a flight in after it auto fills PIC, ASEL, AMEL, dual given, jet.....

Its got so many features that and im learning a new one everyday.

It syncs up great with the Iphone too!

Only 3000 hours to go. :panic:

Downloaded LogTen to try, this is a GREAT piece of software. Been playing with it tonight, and will purchase tomorrow.

Man that sounds sweet. By the time I actually get a Mac I will have over 4,000 to put in. Yikes!

Its a neat program. I got the iPhone add-on too. I am absolutely not looking forward to spending days getting all my time into the database, but I like what you can do with it. It lets you tabulate pretty much anything- complex, retract, pressurized, turbine, etc as well as set a few custom variables. The one thing I wish it would do, which would be very easy (sent an email to Noah) to implement, would be the ability for it to calculate X-C and X-C<50NM automatically, based on airport pairs (it calculates trip distances for you).

All in all, I'm VERY impressed.

Which brings me to another question..... once you go electronic with a system like this, especially one which has the ability to output print media in multiple logbook formats, what do you do with your paper logbooks? Continue to update them, as duplicate? Stop logging in paper, but keeping the old paper logs? And, to throw it out there, the most "extreme": Throw away the paper logs, tearing out the endorsement pages, and just printing out printed log pages into a binder, with those endorsement pages at the back? Discuss...

As for the paper logs, I still plan on running a monthly report on LogTen and simply putting in an entire month on one line. I am a bit too much sentimental to toss the ol' paper logbooks aside :)

I personally use Logbook Pro and have done so for years. It is a solid program that has excellent reporting options and good PDA support for both the GA pilot and the Professional Pilot. The software was written by an Ex A-10 driver and a Frontier Pilot. It has been a lifesaver when filling out airline applications. It seems everyone wants the time broken down differently these days.

Logbook Pro will even run a MAC for those of you that want to run VMWare's Fusion or other suitable emulator.

I also feel Logbook Pro is priced fairly to start and they don't hit you constantly with upgrade fees. Logbook Pro has been out for ten years with numerous upgrades and they have yet to charge a fee for a Logbook Pro upgrade.

Logbook Pro also offers tech support, logbook printing services, data entry services, and custom paper and leather binders by Cirrus. If you notice LogTen sends their customers to Logbook Pro (aka NC-Software) for binders and paper.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or visit Logbook Pro through link below. They also offer a free trial version.

I just checked and they have a sale running now too. 10% off all orders of $100 if you use the code CASHBACK:rawk:
