Announcement Ending 05/02

They **HAVE** his score, they just have got around to entering the data into ASAP to notify him. We could easily get the geopref email today, and so would he, the score might not post until later this week. It's just a data entry delay... but they have the score.

Yup, that's what the folks at RVA told us when I tested. There is a matter of manual entry, which probably explains why some people get their scores back in less than 24-36 hrs and others end up waiting for days.

I just called the FAA for the first time, and finally got to speak to a live person. I said I wasn't going to do it, but I, along with all of you want some solid (haha) info.

She was very nice. She said testing was done for the 05/02. GeoPrefs emails will be out in "a couple of days" and hiring panels are definitely meeting in September.

Seems consistent with what others have been told. "Couple of days" could mean this week.

Yeah I really hope they don't do that, it means less chance of getting the location you really want.

If they finish testing on August 15th hopefully by the time they do their geo pref's our panels will be finished already...

What is interesting, was the wording of the PUBNAT3 announcement. It said if you applied under NAT1,NAT2 that you did not need to apply under NAT3 becuase you would receive consideration automatically. Wonder how/why that is...

I know... I thought of that too. I remember when the 5/30 announcement was open, some people called and asked about that whole "no need to apply" deal and the people at the FAA said they didn't know why that was there or who put it there, but to apply anyway. The 5/30 AT-SAT dates also seem to be a very small window so far, where ours was almost a month... so if they have a lot fewer applicants, it would make sense for them to be thrown in with us (although I really hope that doesn't happen... sorry 5/30 guys)

I think that everyone may be right in saying that they are going to group us together. there must be much fewer applicants in the PUBNAT3, because they are only testing for like four or five days in each location, except Maryland. We had two weeks at each location to choose from.

I'm a 5/2 applicant and I just received my scores yesterday. I must've been one of the last people they entered into the system :o I don't know if grouping us all together means we'll have less of a chance of getting the location we really want.

In my opinion, the FAA will do as they please. I would like to think our preferences have something to do with it. I'm going to ask everyone from the NAT1...if any of them got the location they wanted. It'd be interesting to know...

Read around a bit... some FEBOTS got their first choice, some got their second choice, and some got states/territories that they did not choose at all.

The only reason I said that was b/c I asked one of the proctors from my test (who worked at Miami Center), "Will they send you where you wanna go or will they just place you somewhere?" His answer was, "Yes!" LOL! He said they may or may not...b/c if they get a call from DC saying everyone being hired in the bext 10 days must go to XYZ...they that's where they'll go, hands down. If you ask to go to a Terminal and they have only have enroute in that area, that's where you'll go. He claims it non-negotiable, but that you should negotiate anyways, b/c the worse they can do is tell you "no you can't go there, but you can go here."

Actually, a lot of the people who try to negotiate are told "no you can't go there and if you don't want to go where we want you to go, you can get back in line and try again next time..."

They say they try to send you where you want to go and for most people it does seem they take your preferences into consideration, but there are a couple people on this forum that have been offered places not even remotely near one of their preferences (Alaska and Guam are two that I remember from people here)

Maybe it just depends on who you get on the phone. He said to definitely be polite and say that your excited and thankful for the offer and not to say, "NO I DON'T WANT TO GO THERE..." but more like, "I'm interested in going there (the location they assign you), but can you tell me what other locations are available?" Or, "...can you tell me what happens if I choose to not go to that location?" He said sometimes that person's job is to solely call people and offer them XYZ and next week, they may have they same list of people in front of them.

I have no clue! I'm just praying I don't go to Alaska or Guam! I'm praying I don't go anywhere that has snow! So that pretty much leaves FL, FL, FL, and maybe parts of TX.

None of us really have a clue... I'm trying to stay in NJ and I don't even know if I'll be putting another state as my preference for this application, so I realize I'm being very picky and I know even with that I may be picked for somewhere else or not at all. I just want to try going where I know I want to be.

Yeah I live in Jersey and was considering EWR until I spoke with a controller over there who said "do NOT come here..." he went on to say that most of the new hires there have not checked out and were let go. He encouraged me to apply but to steer clear of the tri-state area in general... so I guess I'm applying to FL and trying to pick a second choice..

Just my casual observation, but it seems that most of the people who ended up with neither of their preferences requested areas where the pickings were pretty slim to begin with and/or limited themselves to a single facility or were terminal or en-route only. Ditto with the folks that weren't selected at all last time around but were in the "well qualified" group of AT-SAT scores. I imagine there were a few exceptions, but it may have just been a matter of that their choices were all spoken for before they got to their names in this go-around.

If you have the luxury of waiting out for a particular assignment, then by all means do so. But if you're trying to get your foot in the door, it would probably behoove one not to paint yourself into a corner by listing "terminal only" in one state that has a single up/down facility and a couple of VFR towers or putting in your comments that you'll only consider one facility in a particular state. Keeping your options somewhat open seems to be the key in getting selected.
