haha, fair enough:D.....but if there is only a couple of these cheap seats on each flight is there really much of a problem?

Marketing uses this to attact internet attention. It's less costly than glossy ads in magazines. By the time others look, the two seats available at that price are gone. People see the offerings and still book, despite the higher price--if they are still available. Many routes are rarely discounted because they don't have to do so. Did you know that planes can be booked to full capacity at no discounts at 3:30 AM departures? It's true.

Oh, and by the way, you have to pay for everything else as a la carte. So, it's really not as low as it seems on its face. They make that clear when you book.
 
Seems like they completely forgot to add the Detroit deals into the system, despite having it listed for both $1.11 and $11.11 fares. None of the prices listed come up when I did my search. I called their outsourced middle east reservations center, which the kind lady told me that the price isn't listed because all of the seats are sold at the $1.11 and $11.11 fare.

Somehow I don't think that's accurate because I checked every date listed with each destination, and each had a fare much higher than the $1.11 or $11.11.

Oh well.

I dunno about u guys, but I got bunch of friends wanting to go to las vegas now

sorry, but for 3 dollars, I don't care if i'm traveling in a DC-3 carrying chicken (like in indiana jones hah)

I might go see los angeles too haha

they do this all the time though. they are famous for their 9 dollar schemes

when I was trying to get an internship there, I mentioned this, and the base ops laughed at me saying 'if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'

You have to become a member to get the low fares. I decided to pay the 9$ for the 60 day membership (If you do this, make sure you cancel it or you will be charged after the 60 days like 40$). You only get the low fare on the departing leg, not the returning. I get the 11.11 fare to Ft. Myers, but its 160.00 on the way back. All in all, $170 is not bad, but I sitll have yet to purchase it and see if they throw any other curveballs.

Except Spirit has been doing this kind of thing for YEARS. And once again, they aren't selling the plane's capacity at that rate. It is a teaser to get people to the web site.

And in case you plan on acting like Nostradamus if Spirit should fail, it isn't exactly going out on a limb to predict the failure of ANY airline in today's climate.

:yeahthat: I flew Spirit once so I got put on their little mailing list. I got the $1 low fair email months ago. My first thought? There goes another airline.

On the contrary, I have a few friends that fly for Spirit and I aksed them this same question, how can they operate with fares this low and were they in fear of their jobs. He told me that Spirit has a lot of financial backing and they have agreements with local casinos to cities that they fly to for reimbursement packages. Look at some of the routes, Las Vegas, Atalantic City, Florida, many of which have huge casinos. From the casinos perspective, enter into an agreement with an airline to offer low rates to allow people to get to the casinos to ultimately loose thousands of dollars unintentianlly and reimburse the airlines for their loss. From a business standpoint, its a win win situation for the casinos and the airline, the only ones loosing out are the passenegers.

As for the other cheap routes, I'm just as confused how they can offer those low fares. Maybe agreements with local attractions, Your guess is as good as mine

Amazing.

People inside the industry are willing to chop their own legs off for a cheap fare. . .

No wonder why we can't convince the flying public that it SHOULD cost SUBSTANTIALLY more than it does to drive from Point A to Point B.

You're on a damn airplane folks, and it moves fast. Wake up. #### isn't cheap in this country anymore.
