Trans States Vars Message - Furlough in a few weeks

Unfortunately, I'd imagine if TSA struck uncle Hulie would take the message and start gradually siphoning off 50 seaters to GoJet. (interesting they have 50 seat rates in their contract)

They can't even staff the flying they have now so I couldn't imagine how they would staff more flying.

*If* they recall the furlough pilots for those who decide to come back they will have a furlough + a strike (<--maybe) in their first airline year. :panic::rawk:  :bandit:

It seems like management is pushing it!

Most aren't coming back anyways unless furlough lasts a few weeks, which I highly doubt. Plus if there is a strike and you're under probation and forced to work, that's not exactly a good place to be. I'm pretty new to this airline but with the way management handles things the only way may be a strike.

By the way I'm supposed to be furloughed in about 10 days, why am I still being scheduled trips? I thought we weren't needed.

Well, I just called in sick for today and the scheduler did not seem pleased at all. I got the impression that it was going to cause them some problems. How is it possible that right now they desperately need me but 10 days from now, they don't need me or 44 other FO's? I still can't figure this out. I'm so seriously considering applying to Gojet. Flame all you want but they're hiring, have decent work rules, union, and the potential to grow.

I'm getting the impression that TSA is going to be struggling for quite a while and Gojet has the chance to do a lot better as a company. Everybody says that Gojet pilots are bad because they are pilots willing to work for less and bring the industry down for everybody else and blah blah blah. Their pay is industry average and the benefits look to be as well. You wanna talk about a place with terrible industry pay, let's talk Trans States. $25 second year FO pay is something I'm not sure I can handle. That's enough to cover my union dues and that's about it. Gojet just looks like a better place to work all around. The only negative is that people will instantly hate me for going to work at a place that is convenient for me that will pay me better than before. It's either this or I go find a different line of work. This whole industry is so F'd.

Comair is hiring also. :) I am also sorry about your potential furlough. :(

There are plenty of resources / posts in regard with Gojet. You can read it yourself. Good luck on your decision.

Hopefully you've been waterskiing long enough to make the right choice in regards to your decision. There are better options.

True, I'm going to apply there too. Unfortunately their domiciles are not as convenient for me as Gojet's. Also, what is the outlook for Comair like? Is the company likely to keep growing and hiring and everything even with the recent Delta announcement? I'm trying to pick somewhere that has a stable future and unfortunately Gojet seems like it could be a decent place as far as that's concerned.

Also, I've read plenty of posts about the Gojet and TSA situation and I've flown with plenty of captains here at TSA that have been very willing to give me the whole scoop on everything. In my mind, it's over and done and both sides could have played it better. The only thing I'm really worried about is going to Gojet and having a very hard time getting hired somewhere in the future.

I'd love to see a pro/con list for going to the few airlines that are hiring right now. I guess those are SkyWest, Gojet, and Comair. People in the know, help us furloughees figure out what to do with ourselves.

Personally, I'm not going to burn any bridges with Trans States. However, will I be back? Probably not. To be honest, driving across the entire country to go back to a job paying $20,000 a year just doesn't sound amusing to me. The only way I would do it is if I was (knock on wood) still without a job when/if they recalled me.

My goal, for now, is to go overseas. Everything about this industry and country is fairly messed up right now and I'm not sure I want to stick around to see it get any worse. I may come back in a few years when the industry/country rights itself, but for the time being, I just can't see myself sticking around here much longer. Frankly, a larger part of the equation is that I can't afford to stay here. I need to start paying my student loan sometime soon, and I'm not all that interested in living behind Burger King and taking showers at the YMCA just so I can make less than the janitor at said Burger King.

So, what to do? Flying cargo or flight instructing in another country seems like a nice (deccent?) change of pace to me and a chance to get out and do something to build more experience and see some new things. I realize it's not for everyone and that it may turn out to be a horrible idea, but I really have nothing to lose at this point.

We'll see what happens...

I've definitely been considering the leaving the country option. I was thinking I could just collect my unemployment and go on vacation for a couple months. Were you in the Feb class?

If I still had travel benefits after the 1st, I'd be lounging around in Europe.

Anyway, yeah, I was in the February class.

Ah, a fellow survivor. Well, good luck to you whatever you decide to do. I hear training is easier pretty much at every other airline out there so that's at least somewhat comforting.

.

In all honesty I was more negative towards GJ before I came to TSA. Now I learned the facts about TSA/GJ. Talked to CAs that voted yes and no. What those original TSA guys did was horrible and should be treated accordingly but the fact is that GJ now is a descent place to be no matter what it's reputation is. You can't blame guys that weren't involved with the whole TSA thing by applying there. Going there is not going to be a career ender however it will raise a few eyebrows form regional guys. I suspect once you make it out to the majors and beyond, nobody cares, they don't care where you got your experience as long as you're there. This is coming form CAs that I talked to about the majors. By the way another FEB survivor here.:rawk:

With all the February guys lurkin' around, we should create our own airline with equipment from Mesa/Freedom. Any time Trans States cancels a flight out of IAD, we'll just happen to be running a flight that day to that city.

...

We'd probably break even after three days.

Ha, so true. We'd probably have to have our own rampers though, otherwise we'd always be delayed.
