XJT Rejects SKW's Takeover Bid

signed by our representative group (SAPA) and management is a legally binding contract. PCL says not . . I am going to research further, and come back with a stronger understanding and position.

thats just it, you do not have a representative group. for a group to represent the pilots to exist, it must be recognized by the national mediation board and voted on by the group seeking representation. Yup, a union.

If you guys are really 100% behind SAPA what you all should have done in the last union vote would be to cast a vote for SAPA vs ALPA. Then your policy manual signed by SAPA and management would, in fact, be a legally binding contract.

Think about it this way, what if a group of skywest pilots got together and drew up a policy manual that took concessions across the board, signed it and then brought it to management for a signature. Consider if it were to be signed, management has just chosen to recognize the new group of pilots as bargaining representatives for your whole airline. Or perhaps those new rules just apply to a subset of the pilot group. You might argue that their agreement isnt legally binding because they dont represent the whole pilot group, but the point to take away is that that group of rogue pilots is exactly what SAPA is. You just dont mind right now because you perceive the results of SAPA as positive.

Please don't tell me that you're considering leaving to take a job at non-union Skywest. You know better than that, John.

We've already lost bro, you can PM me if you want to hear my detailed thoughts on this issue, but I'm hosed. I'm in the bottom 5% of my seniority list, and as soon as Skywest buys us, they'll shut down branded and put 700 of us on the street.

granted it may not make a difference for you, but if we shutdown branded today we wouldnt lose that many pilots. I'm not sure on the current count but last i heard branded was less than 40 airplanes and would not impact 700 pilots.

232 airplanes if we shut down branded = around 2320 pilots... we have around 2800 now so you'll probably only see 400 or so on the street.

Merit... Don't make me reach back like A Pimp Named Slickback! ;)

This is not an accurate assessment of my perspective. I know that it is important to have binding agreements. If in fact SAPA can not represent the pilot group in a manner that creates a contrct, then we need to change it to make it so. As I said before, I have to do some research on this.

Hey young brother, nobody knows how this is going to shake out. Continue to do your job with excellence (I'm sure you will) and minimize the costs to your company where you can. Support your MEC and work hard to maintain a positive attitude. There may be other reasons that we want Xjet (it could be that the branded side is appealing to them as well) we do at risk flying currently, so don't jump to conclusions as to what our mgmt is thinking. I know I'm often surprised at what actually happens when the rumot mill get going:)

There are plenty of options other than Skywest. Go to Pinnacle and be a Captain in under a year. Go to Eagle. Go anywhere with a union! Don't sink to that level, John. You're better than that.

If your misconceptions are common at Skywest, then that might provide some insight into why so many junior Skywest pilots are against union representation. If so many pilots are actually under the false impression that they already have a binding contract, then that makes it difficult for guys to understand why union representation is important. These pilots need to be educated on what they're lacking.

At least I'll have an "in" at the burger king in SLC.

While I agree that a non-union carrier is not the way to go, PNCL is the last place anyone should be working, ALPA or not.

from 40.00 for the bottom end per month to 100 a month for Kaiser

Thanks. That is the same price as Colgans Benefits. So not really competitive as it was stated.

How much are Pinnacles PCL? For a single guy for the month?

Good luck to all at ExpressJet and Skywest.

If I get furloughed, my plan is to apply at Pinnacle again. Back at Captain's pay in just a few months, and work with a unified and strong pilot group that doesn't take s--- from the company. I'd work there before any non-union company any day of the week.
