ERAU $46,000/yr?!?!

I'm just wrapping up my second year here and I'm already seeing things fall down.

There are some positives going on in the College of Aviation right now though. First, instructors are getting a decent benefits package. Also, we now have an Aviation Student Council that has been working hard on several issues and has really hit the transportation issue hard. Main campus is in Kalamazoo, obviously, and then the airport is Battle Creek which is about a 25 mile drive. Well with gas around $3.25 and 5 flight slots a week that's painful. So the student council has managed to have parking passes waived for aviation students which is a savings of about $350/year and that is only a temporary solution as they work on getting the university to give us a bus that runs hourly to the airport.

I guess what I'm saying is there is still hope...

Luckily, I'll be out of here next year! I'll miss college life but I certainly won't miss them stealing all of my money.
 
I got the same degree from their extended campus for a lot less than one year at the Daytona or Prescott campus. They gave me a lot of credit for Private-Comm. multi, and it was less than $200 per credit hour.

Me on the other hand I am going to Vaughn College to double major in Airport/Airline Management (as you know buddy:)) where it is only 14,000$ a year which is about 56,000$ for my whole bachelors degree. Then saying my degree's/cert's run me about 40,000$ at most (hopefully) that is only 96,000$ which is 88,000$ less then ER. Remember my freind, no one cares if you have a 4 year degree in flippin burgers, as long as it is accredited, and it show's work ethic;)

Not trying to tell you what to do, just saying that 88,000 can get you a damn fine Range Rover, and maybe a visit from Kristen:D:D:D Extreme:sarcasm:, you get the point:)
 
Went to community college = Less than $4000 a year. Covered by TAP/PELL. I did have approx 8k in loans, mostly paying for a place to live.

Going to UVSC = Approx $2500 a semester. Pell Covers.

Total College Tuition Cost = ~$18,000 (mostly free thanks to grants). $166,000 Cheaper than ERAU. Guess who cares whether my degree is from Riddle or Utah Valley?

Not including flight, of course. For that it will be 8k(carryover)+WhatevereIEndUpPayingForFlight

I went to Riddle but instructed at WMU. IF they can get hourly transportation to BTL, that would be awesome!

Just a quick question, how do you get your grants? Im enrolled at UVSC and been paying for every penny of it :(

I don't feel bad for people that go to ERAU or ATP, they didn't do their research well enough or money just wasn't a factor for them.

Um yeah that's great and all but for an airline aspiring pilot kind of defeats the purpose of spending 30K for an associates degree when you need a bachelors.....:banghead:

How about this for a plan then: spend a fraction of the cost and get an A.S. degree. Get your certificates and ratings cheaper at the same time. Transfer the said A.S. degree to ERAU, along with credit for licenses and ratings, which can lower the remaining credit needed to get a B.S. degree to as little as 30 credit hours. You end up paying just a fraction of the overall price it would have cost to attend ERAU for the full 4 years, but walk away with the EXACT same degree.

Better yet, go to a in state university and do your ratings on the side. I'm not sure what scholarship packages other states offer, but in Florida I was able to go to school for a grand total of $35 dollars a semester, which covered books and tuition. An additional perk was having a degree in a field other than aviation, which not only gives me flexibility if I'm ever furloughed but also differentiates me from other people competing with me for a job. The education and experience you'll receive from a state university is worth its weight in gold and it won't leave you with the curse of a life long monetary debt.
 
The sad thing is that people are willing to pay this for an aviation school that's not all that different from the rest. I went to a small private college with a flight degree that cost $18,000/yr, but about half of that was taken care of by scholarships from the University. We fly the same planes and are taught by former students just like everywhere else. Not to mention planes are plentiful and we can rent them and even go into IMC! Classes are taught by professionals in the aviation industry. I guess we don't have a beach nearby, but with the extra money you could fly first class to any beach in the world you wanted!

Exactly...I'm going to a state university and not having to pay one dime for my tuition. I am taking out some loans for living expenses but they are relativey small. When the time comes to go to an FBO for flight training it will be a lot easier to spend the 30K or so for my ratings when I don't have much debt from getting my degree.

If I could do it all over again, I would do it the way u r. Hind-sight is alwayz 20/20!
 
What the heck is UND charging these days? Last I heard, they were making students pay $4000 a year to rent a computer (required) and muti costs were over $300 an hr.....
 
Speaking from ERAU, one of my buddies from UPT recently completed his master's degree from ERAU-worldwide (online). Anyone know how much this (roughly) costs? I'm sure GI benefits will pay for some of it, and I have enough free time sitting in hotels I could probably stand to knock out a master's degree in the process. Anyone have experience with ERAU--online program?

I wanted to go to Riddle out of high school... then I saw the price... I have a hard time stomaching more per year of college than my mom and I made combined... :panic:
So I went to a state school with an aviation program. I still think I'm paying too much, but I'll be walking out with a degree, CFI, CFII, and MEI, and only about $30K in loans. So Natch. :nana2:
