New Citation Mustang

So if you're at UND, do you get time in it or is it just to fly the big wigs around?

Ha! That's no trainer, I guarantee it.

But look for it to be featured prominently (if misleadlingly) in future UND Aerospace ads.
 
It is a trainer, but for international students. aka Air China
so they aren't going to do the King Air anymore? (granted it is leased, at least i am pretty sure the King Air is leased)

where did you get that info? i can't imagine a brand new jet being cheaper to operate for the required training for Air China that the King air, especially when the King Air satisfies all the training requirements.

then again i didn't go to any of the PR stuff, so what do i know
 
There was a flyer out last year or maybe the year before saying that they will be offering a course to students in one of a few new jet aircraft the university will be recieving. I was told that there will be one citation mustang and 2 D-Jets (Diamond Jets). So I guess we will have to wait and see what they will be doing with those aircraft. I wouldnt mind spending the money to get some time in one of those. I wonder if any UND instructors got the type rating to fly the citation.

Its not for air china. Air China needs an aircraft at 12,500lbs. The citation mustang does not meet that weight requirement. The jet primary purpose is a executive aircraft for university travel. The instructors "typed" on it are some selected leads and course managers. The aircraft may eventually be offered to students but it will be expensive and really only the rich or the people with SJS will do it. The plane looks sweet though and when it came to town a couple of months ago I really liked how the flight deck was set up.

Well that is the last time I listen to my instructor. :sarcasm: I knew it was going to be for "executive travel" and that they were going to offer a course for anyone who wanted to burn hundreds, if not a thousand, and hour on the thing.

I also heard it will be used to take up space in a hanger or on the ramp so that tours can see it and make the decision to come to UND. "When can I fly that?" "As soon as you give the school $60,000!"
 
Heck, I should finish my training from 221 to 325 in the Mustang. Sure it'd probably cost me $300,000; but I got to get to the jets as soon as possible.:sarcasm:

There might actually be some students that would want to to go from private all the way through commercial in that.

Quick question: Is it even possible to start out with a private license in a jet?
 
Im thinking that extra 4 dollars an hour supposedly for the instructors is really for the operating costs of this. Unless instructors really are getting paid more, I dont know...

some are some are not. depends on the situations. full time now is 4 students, rather than 6, so that can be upwards of a 6/hr increase. and some people get the bonus, others do not

i REALLY want to see the dollars and cents justification for buying that aircraft.

maybe we all bought it with the laptop program?
 
I was told today that it was going to mainly be used for corporate travel and then maybe it will be used as an "advanced trainer". I wonder how much complaining about flying commercial airlines had to be done before someone decided to get this thing.
