New pilot, need advice

- The computers in the plane I fly are sub-standard (they are a decade old, but completely unimpressive nonetheless).

On my leg today, I wanted to couple the AFCS to my MacBook, but Skipper said it was outside the SOP.

Its just very discouraging to continue training for a CMEL when in the future(many many years) from now that my job will be lost to a computer along with many other professions. I want to be a pilot really bad though so I will probably just keep going.

I wouldn't be as worried about the computers taking over as I would this career not being fit to pursue anymore...

HaHa...I think I am starting to agree with you...

anyone else have any good career suggestions that don't involve desks?

"I'm not sick of flying the small planes. they are a lot of fun. It's just that you are just a huge slave to the weather. even with an instrument rating you can't always go into IMC"

That's actually a good thing. You're being forced to make go/no go decisions based on what you are flying and the current conditions. That's something all pilots should have a lot of experience with. If there was some superplane that could fly in a tornado, I guess the go/no go decision would not be important, but learning in small planes with limited capability will serve you well in the future.

I’m not saying that I believe that planes will be pilot free in the next few decades I was just trying to make a point that getting my ratings are worthwhile because I would fly general aviation if nothing else. I also understand that flying single engines and light twins are great experience I just want to push the envelope and since I’m not John Travolta I need to get a job to get rated in a 747. I am simply asking what, is the best way to get there? I have gotten a lot of advice and I thank you for it. It looks like I need to stay and school and get my bachelor’s degree. If I lose my medical or if in the highly unlikely event of all planes go pilotless early in my lifetime at least I will have something to fall back on. Also I just need to log as many hours as possible. I know I want to fly for a living and I just want a good idea of the path that I need to follow.
Thanks guys
-Matt
