I'm starting at ATP in March for the Career Pilot Program, really looking forward to this. I've got 125 hours and my writtens done. This is gonna be great!

You have every single written done? If so... well done! Your life will be so much more stress-free.

Hey Rob,
Does ATP send out the books & study guides as soon as I pick a start date & put down my deposit? I am not yet ready to lock in my start date although I figure it will be this May. Can you tell me what written tests I should prepare for/take? I hope I can get them out of the way before I start to make life easier for me. Thanks!

Which location are you starting at? I am looking into PHX at the end of March. Wanted mid March, but I am having trouble with the weather and finishing my PPL.

Yup, as soon as you drop your deposit, they send you the box of books.

As for writtens you will be required to do all of these during the 90 days:

Instrument Written
Commercial Written
Fundamentals Of Instructing
Flight Instructor Written (I cant remember the exact name of it right now)
Instrument Instructor Written

Commercial and FI written are very closely related.
Instrument and Instrument Instructor are the EXACT same tests. They use the same word bank, so go ahead and take those at the same time.
Fundamentals of Instructing has a question bank of only like 129 questions. At riverside the record finishing time for that written was like 2 minutes with a 100% score, its pretty easy.

Alloyicon, I am about a .5 step ahead of you. Your deposit is to secure your class date, as far as I understand they go hand in hand. Will they take your 2gs and send you some books with out a start date nailed down? I dunno. Call the 800 number and ask for James, Eric, or Greg. These are the people I was told to contact for questions that are out of reach for the folks in the "pit".
Good luck...

Yeah... I've been in talking with Eric over @ ATP. The only reason I have yet to throw down my deposit & lock in my start date is I am in the process of getting a special issuance 1st class medical due to less than perfect vision in one eye. I have 20/20 in my right & 20/25 in my left according to my eye doctor. There is a small clump of protein in my lens (congenital cataract) which I was born with. It is a stable condition. The special issuance process is taking a bit longer than I anticipated it would. The FAA medical certification division in Oklahoma City requested that I send in a completed 8500-7 which is the FAA's official "report of eye evaluation" form. My AME started the waiver process in mid December 07' and we sent a 8500-7 in at that time. When you call the FAA medical certification division, there is a contracted answering/administrative service that deals with the phone calls, so apparently I can not speak with the FAA at OK City directly. Anyways, I received a letter from the FAA requesting the 8500-7 if I wanted consideration for a 1st class medical certificate which I sent off to them two days ago. I'm guessing there must have been an issue with the completion or legibility of the first 8500-7 I sent them back in Dec.

Hey Rob, was just wondering where can i get the test material (question bank with answers) for the instrument and commercial as well as the FI--atp only sent me the ppl stuff for my start date in April - I have already gone through all the ppl stuff wanted to stay ahead of the game. I did a search on Ebay some materials being sold on Ebay but i want to make sure i have the most current. What would you recommend.

Thanks

hey

just curious about the medical, are you suppose to get it first before you arrive at atp or when they tell you too?

A 1st Class Medical Cert. is one of the prerequisites for the program. I'm sure ATP would allow me to submit the $2000.00 deposit and lock in my start date as I have already interviewed & been accepted into the Career Pilot Program. I just don't want to risk loosing my deposit in the event that I don't have my medical by late April. If all goes as planned I will start this May.

Get your First Class Medical prior to making any personal or financial decisions about a career flying airplanes.

Don't downplay it by thinking of it as a pre-requisite for a training program. Think of it as a pre-requisite for a career.

I got the 1st class medical already, I got the EKG for ####s and giggles even though I didn't need it. In case there was something wrong with me I wanted to know before I throw down 55k. I've been memorizing the seminole supplement book and questions in the back. I have them all written out. I've also been reading the seminole POH they sent me. Its a lot of work but I figure it will pay back dividends when the money is on the line. What about the CRM book they send you with the various call outs etc. I've looked at it and will do my best to memorize that too. Anyone got any tips for the private multi checkride? I have been looking over the questions in the Oral Exam Guide and going over what I need to know flying wise. I think it will sink in more when I actually fly too. Also one final question, can you hit the simulator as much as you want? or is it limited to a certain # of hours? I figure its limited but read some stuff about guys training to wee hours of the morning etc.

Thanks for any tips

Unlimited. You HAVE to do 40 hours in it for your IFR ticket.

We used to look up the approaches that airlines would have you shoot on interviews and practice them. As long as a CFI hasnt reserved it for one of his students, its all yours.

Know the gear down before landing check list and the in-flight engine failure checklist in your sleep. These will be hit hard every flight before your multi check ride and need to be memorized. The maneuvers are really pretty simple if you think of only having three configurations for the airplane…Clean, dirty, and cruise. Chair flying is your freind here. You will be freaked out the first time your instructor pulls the engine on you, everyone is. Do your first flight, then chair fly some more.
