Since I will be transferring to UND next fall, does anyone have any good tips on preparing for the cold. I do dislike the cold so I am trying to stock up on warm stuff. thanks

Personally I hate the cold. I just wear sweat pants underneath my jeans and two shirts under my coat (or sweatshirt) and I'm fine. Also hat is a must. You really get used to it after a while. It doesn't bother me much anymore. The fun icy roads totally make up for it. :nana2:

Get a GOOD hat, good gloves (especially ones that you can twist knobs and push buttons with) and bring boots so you don't have to buy them here. Other then that not much you can do. You could jump in the freezer for a 10 minutes or so and just imagine how it would be 20 degrees colder. :D

Layers. Basic survival theory.

Honestly, though, it's not that bad. You get used to it pretty quick. But just remember, you chose to come to school in North Dakota, it's gonna be cold. Live with it!

On a cheerier note, welcome to UND! :D Enjoy your time and make some friends, it's not as bad as people like to make it out to be. :nana2:

If you walk, make sure you wear thick socks, I learned my lesson when I came home with frostbite. :nana2: I was walking around so I didn't really feel it till I got home.

Also keep your gloves on when your flying if it's -30 unless you want to be unable to move your fingers after the flight. I had my gloves off for about 10 minutes (T/O roll and climb out) and had to spend 5 minute while my CFII flew so I could get blood flowing through them. Damn that yoke is cold. :buck:

Well said.

Just immerse yourself into the North Dakotan culture: EAT fatty bland foods and become obese.

That is the key to staying warm!

As much of a jokester Jace is being, it IS true. Fat insulates amazingly well. Otherwise, wear several layers. I wear an a-shirt, a long sleeve shirt, a sweater, and then an outer layer/jacket (windproof). It works really well. I do wear double socks. Dress socks are too thin for the cold, and being out in those ramps and airplanes just kills my feet, so I wear double. :p

Yeah.... drink a whole lot of crappy beer and get fat...... or find some North Dakotan princess to keep you warm during the cold months!
