New Southernjets Bid (2/7/2008)

I just need to get this TPIC time outta the way so I'm actually competitive. Then you might get to push me around, Doug, if I'm lucky. :)
:yeahthat:

...unless DAL will hire a brotha with 1000 Part 121/Turbine time and no TPIC.....

*sigh*

Dare to dream...

....and keep flyin'. ;) :D

Can you bid for captain if you're a seat locked f/o? Enquiring minds and all that.

from up above:

Stuckingfk-

I'm currently NYC 7ER FO, mid 4000's seniority number (I think -- I really don't know), but I don't have any bids in for anything. I've got a about another year left on my seat lock from other FO seats, but can bid for an upgrade to a captain seat.

DO you have any intel on where the NYC 777 goes/is going?

So far it's just Mumbai...

I noticed on the latest projection they went from 33 B-777 pilots in JFK to 20, which tells me that Mumbai is going to be the only destination going forward until further notice...

Ya know, I always said I didn't wanna fly int'l b/c it was boring.....until Doug convinced me otherwise. Hence the reason DAL skyrocketted past SWA on my "wanna fly for" list.

Intl Flying is the pinnacle of the career. Once you go intl you never want to go back. Thats why only airlines that fly the heavy metal overseas are on my "wanna fly for list"

I didn't know you could go to Europe on the ATR...and if you can't how would you know?

I'd be happy doing 7 legs in Texas for the rest of my career if it paid well enough.

Depending on what you want! I've found 5 days on and 3 days back at home works out the best for keeping me and the girl happy.

To be honest I don't really care where I'm headed.

International is the shiznit.

The man speaketh the truth!
But the man knoweth not of what he speaketh.

Doug Taylor, international man of mystery, telling me international flying is great means something.

A former student pilot who knew it all and repented his ways who became a regional pilot who now knows it all again doesn't hold much clout.

International flying is very good, I can't see myself going back to domestic anywhere unless I had to. Lucky for me, my airline doesn't have any domestic!:nana2:

Why do a 14 hour duty day and get paid only for 7 hours when you can do a 14 hour duty day and get paid for 12????

I wouldn't. I came into this game with a goal being an international airline pilot and I'm sticking to it. How would I know, lets see, 1 leg a day. Much less work than the up and down nature of domestic. More time off. Get to sleep in Business Class and get paid, although not much sleep according to Mad Doggy Dog. We got at least 3 International FOs on here who could bid Domestic Captain and make more money but are hesitant to do so because the international lifestyle is that much better. Doesn't that tell ya sumtin?

Everyone has their reasons for choosing certain lifestyles. Some prefer the international scene, while others think multiple legs and many landings a day is the bees knees. Just depends on what works for you, and what works for your family.

Personally, I enjoy flying to the US (including AK and HI) and Canada only. I'm not particularly fond of flying to Mexico or South America, and although I'd like to visit the Far East, flying there does not really appeal to me. Europe is very appealing to me, but who's to say that flying to London for the 100th time won't be any less daunting than an overnight in Albuquerque?

(By the way, I'm in Albuquerque right now, and this hotel is outstanding. As is some of the local fare down by the University of New Mexico.)

What appeals to me the most is the thought of making decent money to buy my toys (like a sailboat, and a grill, at the same time; notify the Coast Guard) and having enough days off to enjoy them with my family. Flying is cool and all, but so is seeing the wife in a skimpy bikini enjoying shrimp on the barbie and a few cold ones. ;)

You're mileage may vary. Literally. :D

Hey, let me know when that all comes together for you. I'll come on down for a visit.

I think we've got the same goals, Matt :)

I like my girl, and I like my days off, and I could care less about where I fly! The nicest thing about the (primarily) east coast flying I'm doing right now is that I end up heading through cities where I can see buddies I wouldn't otherwise have a chance to run into because I live on the west coast. Otherwise? I can't tell much of a difference between Greensboro and Greenville, or Killeen and Brownsville. it's all the same to me, and if the crew is awesome then we're gonna have an awesome trip!

Flying long haul I average 18-20 days off per month. That's plenty of time for the wife and all the other stuff.
