Part of me is debating throwing in a bid for NYC ER captain because I'm AAAAAAALMOST, but not quite within range, but I'd certainly be sitting reserve for quite a while if I got it.

But it'd certainly be great to be able to push around the newhires from Jetcareers with some authority! :)

(Expletive Deleted), Istanbul Approach said 180 knots! Not 178, and certainly not 185! what the hell is this, flight sim? Don't make me break out my pimp stick and take your leg away! (insert Howard Dean "Yeaaaaargh" here)

I just need to get this TPIC time outta the way so I'm actually competitive. Then you might get to push me around, Doug, if I'm lucky. :)

If you don't mind me asking, what are you bidding now?

Stuckingfk-

I'm currently NYC 7ER FO, mid 4000's seniority number (I think -- I really don't know), but I don't have any bids in for anything. I've got a about another year left on my seat lock from other FO seats, but can bid for an upgrade to a captain seat.

Generally, an an advance(d?) entitlement, when there's a 777 captain seat up for bid, for every one guy who moves up to the 777 or 767 captain seat, it creates a torrent, of sorts of people filling vacancies.

Under normal circumstances, seeing 777's, 7ER's and 767 captain seats up for grabs is going to create quite a bit of upward movement, which is going to create a larger vacuum at the bottom, requiring more new hires to fill in.

If they end up picking up more 777LR's like they're talking about, there will be a sick amount of upward movement going on.

Easy there, Captain Ike Turner!

I know what you are thinking............cause I'm thinking it too........

Don't do it!

The MD-88 (or is that DC-9 ?) type rating will be useless in a few years as all McDonald Douglas products are eventually turned into beer cans. Mmmm, beer tastes like altitude bust and runway excursion.

I bet you have a shot at LAX 737-800 capt, though. NYC too.

Eeeeeew, reserve.
Eeeeeew, domestic.

I'll bet you a crew juice that ER-A goes at 1997 or 1998.

Domestic captain? Nah, no thanks. LA 737A looks interesting and would be a brain dead commute, but I've gotten far too lazy in my old age to hub-bounce and I don't feel like going to -800 school.... Even if I get a HUD on my side!

Oh, what to do?!

You're about three months ahead of me, you bidding something?

Actually Doug, Im thinking about it.

Because......

My wife is entertaining 2 [well, 3 actually] seperate job offers.

Job #1 moves us to NYC and doubles her salary. Then I get to bid captain on the 73N [737-700/800.] Of course, the taxes and cost of living will eat all that extra money up.

Job #2 gives her a 30% raise, allows us to keep living in Dallas (snooze,) or move to PHX, LAX or SFO......and I would love to be out west. I think I could sit reserve on the LAX 73N, even from PHX and SFO....but not DFW. But with California, the cost of living eats all the extra money. Probably PHX too.....you know a good realtor there?

On top of that, she has interviewed for a big promotion with her present employer. We find out about that next week.....I hope. Everything in our life is on hold until we find out about this. Anyway, if she does not get it, she will tell her company to go pound sand. Then burn down the building. And take back her stapler.

---

I like the 73N trips in NYC. Mostly transcons and florida....even some intl. I'm guessing LAX 73N will be similar, with lots of Mexico. !Arribba!

I don't know, man. I like the 7ER trips in ATL. I'd really hate to give that up. But I am not crazy about living here in Dallas. And even after a few years from when DL closed the DFW hub, the commute out of here is still hellish. There are still over 1100 DL pilots and FAs living here. [Lots of ASA too.]

I guess we need to make a quality of life decision.

So to answer your question............I'm not sure.

Doug,

I think there are a lot of senior F/Os in the NYC 7ER catagory that are camping out until they can simply slide over to the left seat. That is the sort of lazy thing I might do! I'd guess the guys hired in early 97 might have a shot at captain on the 7ER.

Didn't you used to fly the 737?

If not, that is an easy airplane to learn.

---

What is the word up in NYC on where the 777 will be going to..........other than India?

and

What do you think the odds are for newhires getting the 777 in NYC?

I'll betchya there's at least a 90% probability of new hires going to the 777. But who knows.

The cost of living in PHX isn't bad at all. Housing costs are higher than the metroplex, but your jaw would absolutely drop if you saw what we pay in property tax, even coupled with state income tax it's less than DFW.

Sitting reserve in LA and living in PHX looks like the attached PDF file.

I don't want to give up the ER so I might just hold out for the CA seat.

But I really have no idea. I've been having the time of my life flying international and it's hard to even fathom going back to domestic as captain.

I guess if you and I had to worry about funding college educations for offpring, that'd be a little different, huh! Ching-Ching to the DINKS! :)

I'll drink to that!

If we had kids, I would have been such a nervous wreck worrying about how to provide for them in this uncertain industry, I would have gone to the booby hatch. [No, not the strip bar in DTW.] Maybe thats what happened to that poor guy from Air Canada.

DO you have any intel on where the NYC 777 goes/is going?

Since I still have one in college as we speak, we'll have to see if my bid to return to forever reserve on ATL M88A will happen this time. We'll see.

"Booby Hatch?" Don't you know I don't speak Michigander? :) Dang Detroiters.

I think it's just India now in JFK but "rumor has it" they're going to add China and Japan as the LR's show up. Staplegun should know a bit more than I as he's fresh from the school house rumor mill. Or heck maybe even AUAeropilot as he's the "green pages" dude.

Since you'll be sitting around the lounge with wireless, I ought to put you to work as a mod! Ha!

speaking of southernjets JFK India...

I was bored listening to JFK Clearance when I heard a 777 was having problems, apparently, it had so many waypoints on the route to India that the FAA atc program couldn't hadle it.
The pilot goes "here we have a plane that can connect any 2 points on the globe but can't fly because of the FAA's computer" the controller just laughed.
