Okay, I'll bite.
I guess you haven't heard of 'lurking' before.
riiiiight. Moving on.... Let's look at this statement:
Pay very little attention to some individuals on these forums. Some are just upset they're not where you are yet in their training. Others on here, don't even hold any pilot certificate.
What are you really telling us? That information on this site is bad? That what people have to offer is worthless? You're entitled to your view of how you view this site, and I encourage you to give that support of the member applying. Whats the worst that can happen? He doesn't get the job, nothing lost.
So lets move on....
My statement may be "ballsy" to you but, its true none the less. I'm glad to see you gauge other member's aviation experience and insight based off of their post count or months they've been a registered member, really smart. While I've only been on these boards for a few months, I've been flying for over 10 years.
Taking the previous quote, it sounds like you've only been lurking a few months. So for someone who states that they have only been on these boards for a few months you have been able to discern that the majority of the information disseminated here is worthless? You're a commercial instrument pilot, right (based on your sig) and I assume if you're in MA wearing the outfit that you're probably at DCA, right? So, now what experience are you bringing to the table for the hiring process?
No where previously, did I gauge your experience based on your membership length or post count. I stated that your statement was asinine. There is a wealth of information here and if your 10 years of flying experience can't show you that then it's time to take the blinders off.
I just find it challenging to wrap my head around your statement of:
Just ignore some of the minds on here as most don't have anything valuable to contribute.
As if your opinion is any more valuable than anyone elses. Maybe it would be easier if we came up with a sixoneseven list of approved people with posts of value.
Valuable information will come with time and your own self experience, not reading web boards online.
Lets take two aspects of this: first the original poster. You yourself are stating that experience comes with time, wouldn't it be prudent that the person gains a little more experience before applying? Second, again the valuable information thing. Why do you even bother if nothing can be gained by reading/lurking/contributing in a forum?
I don't mean to be harsh but, more people seem to be discouraging him from tossing an application out there than encouraging him. It seems some or most of these people don't really have any good firm understanding or insight on whats going on in aviation, they simply read these forums online and make their own opinion.
Have you looked at the memberlist? You have aviation school managers, freight pilots with 20 years experience, line captains, new FO's, student pilots, spouses of pilots, CFIs, charter pilots, line workers, desk jockeys, A & Ps, but no,
we don't have a clue as to whats happening in aviation.
There is a large amount of jealousy, wanna-be's and users with a lot of misinformation on these forums, As I've clearly illustrated for you, moxiepilot. btw, moxie is terrible.
In any forum (and I'm not speaking of online exclusively, rather the assembly of people and ideas), you are going to get misinformation and sometimes jealousy. As for making that clear, I really didn't get that. If you want to show us the misinformation, the jealousy, that's fine. But I really don't care.
As for you thinking I'm terrible, I also really don't care. I think there are enough people on the boards that do value my opinion and my experience. Just because you don't like me doesn't make me stay awake at night.
Also, This not meant to be JC Specific. I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. I just hate to see people not be positive about it.
So many contradictions. What is your stance? How can you say that the information presented is worthless then turn around and say that there is knowledge here?
Whatever you do, thats great. I hope you continue to contribute to the forum and become an asset to the site. Maybe you can take that 10 years of experience and put it to good use encouraging people here. Maybe you can be the positive voice of reason.
I don't know - it's yet to be determined. But a word of advice, don't come in here all holier than thou because you've lurked. Some of us put a lot of time and energy into contributing and we might get some information wrong. Well, at least we're trying to do something rather than sitting idly by.
