How did you meet your significant other?

I met my husband while he was flying my mom and I off our family's island in April of '99 up in Maine. I only saw him at the airport whenever I dropped my parents off to go back out. Then I got a call July 1st of '99 and it was him. My relatives gave him my number and he called. To make a long story short we started dating that day, got engaged 8 days later. I found out I was prego two weeks before I was supposed to go to boot camp and we got married Sept. 22 '99. We have been together since. We now have two cute kids. I absolutely love the pilot wife lifestyle even the ups and down.:p

Lets see... in October 2003 I got hired by Circuit City to work in the Roadshop (car audio stuff). Well the first night of closing on my own (about 3 days later) this redhead girl walked in back and i said to myself "damn shes hott" ... well I asked for her name and gave her my number and said " if you want to go out call me." Well, she called but said she was in a serious relationship with this guy Dan that worked in TV's. Well I had ALWAYS kept in contact with her from October 2003 until November this past year when I started talking to her again and was extremely intersted. So, I asked to go on a date with her (classic dinner/movie/drinks after) deal. Well, she was extremely impressed with how my life had completely changed around and we started dating. Well we stole eachothers hearts instantly. Were going on a cruise in July 2008 to the Mediterranian, and getting married on July 4th 2009. Im asking her to marry me in Barcelona, Spain where she wants to visit really badly, AND where our cruise starts from :) .

Does she know that she's getting married on July 4th, 2009 yet? Or does she just not have any say in the matter?

:)

Actually its funny you ask. She DOES know, however she most definately doesn't know that im proposing to her in Barcelona. I thought Spain was appropriate because shes a Spanish major and is getting her ESL (English as second language) in a few months once her school lets out. (she teaches spanish and social studies in 6-8 grade). I'm so proud of her, and shes proud of me because she LOOOOOVES flying internationally and so do I... so were a perfect match that way. :nana2:

@ a Riddle party. :cwm27: :sarcasm:

I actually did meet my wife at a Riddle party. Prescott even. What's more, i was dating a different 'Riddle girl at the time. yeah, i know it's 10:1 (or at least it was when i was there) but it's possible to meet someone just about anywhere. Do they still have the Rugby team? the Rugby parties were the best.

Camp Humphrey's, Korea. Lots of guys in flight suits, very few women. She was always surrounded by guys, so I never thought to ask her out. Besides, we were in different units and I did not know anyone in hers. One evening after dinner I was walking back to my hooch from the O-Club and she chased me down. She asked if I wanted to go to the 'ville with her that night. I looked around, sure that she was talking to someone else. That was eighteen years ago.
We were at different bases when we got back to the U.S., but kept dating. I waffled about getting married until she went to the first Gulf War. The unit she was initially supposed to be assigned to had a bunch of soldiers killed. I did not hear from her for a few weeks (no internet or phones), and thought the worst. I resolved to marry her if she made it back. She was assigned to a different unit at the last minute and did not think about it when the unit was hit. She got back in May, we eloped in June.

awesome story!

Kidnapped. That's the best way to get the one you want. She still chained to the orange tree in the backyard. Ahhh, true love for 3/12 years.

We meet on friendster and later on myspace talk on AIM and on the phone. She came up to Target to meet me in person when I was working.

Very slow Saturday... Complete boredom has struck...

Matt (FlyChicaga) was the CA on one leg of my flight from TUL-AQB-SMF. I was a ground worker in TUL. Talked a bit... Networking...;)

Couple of months later, I was the gate agent at 5am... Not happy about it! And did not look cute! He remembered meeting me, but it took a minute for me to remember, I have a really bad memory... Talked about his upcoming overnight in SMF and anything fun to do since I lived there the year previous. Exchanged emails, found him on MySpace, started talking on a regular basis. A couple of weeks after that I went to SAN to see him and sit in the back of his plane from SAN-COS-SMF for the overnight we first talked about. Also met Dale and his wife, good friends of Matt's, that night... The was... fun...

I knew then how wonderful he was. We were never a likely match, but now... I can't imagine anyone more perfect for me.:D

Wierd story really.

In autumn of 1998 I had just been furloughed by AirTran. I had only been there for a few months and had only just completed DC9 IOE when they furloughed me. I had absolutely no money whatsoever, but managed to get hired flying for Chautauqua (for the second time in my career...)

Anyhow, I had no money so rather than get an apartment I found a nice parking garage near the Pittsburgh airport and began living in my car. I'd fly trips with overnights whenever I could, but when I couldn't I would shower at the YMCA. Yeah, it was that bad.

I managed to talk the company into giving me a cushy TDY gig in CAK and I was excited that I would have a hotel to live in for a month. Hot showers, cable TV... i'd be living like a king!

So i'm dedheading from CAK to PIT (in 98' that pair was flown by a DC9) and happened to be sitting next to a gentleman who wasted no time telling me that he was a brake salesman. He was talking my ear off and I happened to notice across the aisle this attractive business woman was eavesdropping and laughing at me trying to be polite and listen to this yahoo.

When we arrived in PIT I followed her off the jetway, got her attention, and joked that I was glad she found my seatmate amusing. I followed her to her gate and we chatted a bit, finally exchanging email addresses.

Over the next few weeks we dated a bit. I'd fly or drive to Akron and take her out... really cheap dates like walks in the park, going to the humane society to look at dogs... lol

Finally got the guts to tell her I lived in a car.

And she still married me.

(Of course she didn't AGREE to marry me until I had been hired by US Airways, and was a lineholder DC9 F/O making over $90,000/yr)

(then in 2002 came the furlough and anybody who tells you that furloughs don't breed marital problems is a liar...but that's another story entirely)

Cheers!
nice story. hope u both r still very happy.

:laff::laff:.. I hadn't even thought of that.. props on the creativity!

Nothing even remotely to do with airplanes....I was home on leave from AIT (Army job training...) and got set up by a friend of mine, college classmate of hers...funny thing is that it was only supposed to be a *ahem* 1 time encounter. Well, 4 and a half years, 2 wedding rings, a house, 2 cats and a dog...there ya go.

Went to an exgirlfriend's college graduation party and we were introduced. Next month will be our 11th wedding anniversary.

My now-wife was sitting ready reserve in BNA on the same morning that one of my FAs no-showed. I dumped the girl I was with, and we had our first date 2 weeks later. We're coming up on 8 months of marriage now.

And I always thought it'd never happen for me.
