While you certainly should consider the source when getting the views of somebody who has been there 6 months, also consider the source from somebody who spent SEVEN YEARS, count that, SEVEN YEARS there.
So apparently it's OK for "Bog" to be there for SEVEN YEARS to get the experience and PIC time that led to the next job, but it's not OK for *YOU* to go there and get that experience, because, ...... well that hasn't yet been explained.
Well, it's good to see that you're still on Johnny's payroll. What a shocker that you, as usual, are trying to discredit me. Since you asked...
I started at MAG in Jan 2000. At that point, the majors were hiring like crazy, and the key to getting there was PIC as fast as possible. MAG was the way, and it really was not a bad place at that point. Jump to 9/11 ... no-one's hiring, everyone's stuck at the regionals, upgrade goes from 1 1/2 years to 6, and you can see that I was going to be stuck at MAG for awhile. I upgraded 6 months after my seniority could hold the left seat because I wanted to be READY for the left seat, not upgrade because I could. Once I hit 1000 PIC turbine, I interviewed at Citation Shares. They didn't hire me. I kept flying the line, looking for a place to work that didn't require dropping $8000 on a type rating. Oh, and at that time, friends with 4000 PIC turbine weren't getting hired, either. Almost a year goes by, Allegiant interviews me. Didn't hire me. I bet that makes you happy. A few months later, I finally escaped and got my 135 job.
So you see, I never claimed it was "OK" for me to spend 7 years at MAG. I add that in because it means I have EXPERIENCED MAG in a way that you never will until you get off the 11th floor. People looking to start their airline career want reliable, accurate information about the airlines who are hiring. They don't want smoke, mirrors, and your sunshine-up-the-arse. They want honest opinions from people who speak the truth.
For those still even considering MAG for employment: I do not have a single friend at MAG who is happy. A buddy who just upgraded on the CRJ is taking a contract job in China to get away. Three buddies are about to outright quit their CAPTAIN jobs and go work at Home Depot or Lowe's. Rumors are starting to float about a new contract that's supposed to be "industry leading." Yeah right. If that happens, MAG will be sold within 6 months of its signing, and the contract will become worthless. United has found a way to start replacing MAG aircraft. US Airways excercises every option to elimitate MAG aircraft. go! is failing. The Chinese JV has failed. The CEO files frivolous lawsuits at random individuals who speak poorly of him on the internet simply to shut them up (Google or Yahoo "Mesa vs Mike Uslan, oh and don't forget about Holly at planebiz).
Every company will always have management plants who have the capability of putting a positive spin on the plague. Do not believe them.
