I was wondering if anyone here flys for mesa or has gone on an interview with them recently? I am getting ready to interview with them and i was wondering how it went and what they ask? Also if you do get hired what are the chances of getting phoenix or veags as a base. Also what aircraft you are most likley to be put into? Thanks guys.

Here's what I would do .....................

Get your best pair of tennis shoes , some nice white socks , pull them up real far , you know , up to your knees like when you were in Jr high , double tie your laces , make sure you have some nice loose fitting running shorts , stretch just a little , then

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!

If you do interview with mesa and do get an offer and do accept it do everyone a favor and get active with the mesa MEC. maybe if every new pilot is active and contributory to their own interests the management will find it more difficult to eff you over.

Or you could just apply somewhere else.

Interview? What interview? You mean the 2 hour (if they can figure out the projecter, if not then 3 hour) presentation of why you should work for Mesa? Followed by the 10 "question" written test that they obviously do not grade followed by a "technical" interview which consists of "where does this approach begin" and "what is the localizer frequency"? Seriously, if you are going to the interview for the "experience", don't waiste your time. I did and still have nightmares from the horror of watching that presentation! I'd wish you luck, but your not going to need it!

Counselor, don't you know that you're cool if you talk crap about Mesa online? Obviously, GlenWimpy is pretty cool.

As for a serious answer to the original poster- Read the gouges on aviationinterviews.com- it's pretty much exactly like that. PHX is the most senior CRJ base, and I think it could be anywhere from 6 months to 12 months before you could hold it- but that's just a rough guess on my part. From what I hear, they're mostly hiring into the CRJ, with some F8 ERJ classes, and they're also running a Dash class here and there.

If you want to avoid all the BS from everyone online trying to be cool by bashing Mesa even if they have no first hand experience at all, shoot me a PM. I'll be more than happy to answer your questions in a mature way.

Cam,

While I understand the acrimony you seem to feel, I, and certainly others, would appreciate it if you could post that information here. It's good to share and if you've got first-hand experience, it's certainly going to be valuable to more than one person making an informed decision.

Thanks.

Ok, so if you are at Mesa (i would assume you are) then why would you undermine your own prospects at a good contract by recommending pilots come there?

The pilot shortage is probably the only effective and legal leverage you have to make your management even consider giving you something decent.

I guess I don't get it. Do you honestly believe most people that say 'stay away' do so only because it's trendy or fun? Wow.

I would agree that most people do. I've got nothing better to do... let's bash Mesa. Question - how long have you been a LAMA?

I have to say that so far my experience has been on par with Cam's. I went there with open eyes knowing that there are problems, and plan on volunteering with the union as soon as I can to make things better.

The whole... "run, run - as fast as you can" thing gets old. So far I have worked with alot of knowledgeable and professional pilots at Mesa. You have bad eggs... but they are everywhere. But, hey... every unit has its Private Pyle. And here Mesa is the designated Private Pyle.

These Mesa jokes are stale. Would a Mesa pilot please answer his question?
There's a reason behind the "madness"...Trust us. You can search about all the horrible treatment that Mesa pilots get, but the short and easy answer is to just go somewhere else. Nearly everyone is hiring right now (except for us :)).

Nowhere in my above statement did I imply I knew what life was like at Mesa.

Your question reads of being defensive, which is what I don't get. You should want outsiders to think it sucks there as much as possible. The bash on Mesa 'conspiracy' you complain about is a net positive* for you...stop ruining it!:)

*The positive financial benefits should outweigh the hit to your ego!**

**unless you have a really frail ego and you pay more in shrink bills than what you could gain in a good new contract:D

OK I'll post.

Las Vegas - not a base for anything as far as I know.

PHX - it's my opinion, based on the current distribution of reserves and the way FO standing bids are coming out and the fact that recruiting is promising people they can have any base they want that Mesa was assigning new hires their first request. They may no longer be doing that, but that's what I think they were doing. So if they ARE doing that, and keep doing it, and you bid PHX, and you get the Mesa CRJ or Dash you'll get PHX. Now if they involuntary displace out of PHX to re-align the bases to what a normal airline would have, bye bye PHX.

If you go to PHX as a junior FO, expect to be junior assigned to TDY somewhere else, probably IAD - but at least the company provides and pays you for the commute.

As far as I know junior on the Dash is still GJT, junior on the Mesa CRJ is IAD, junior on the Freedom ERJ or CRJ is JFK. When base assignment was normal most people who get IAD in training get ORD before they finish IOE if they want it.

What was the other question? Oh equipment - who knows, nobody knows how Mesa assigns people to equipment - playing the odds, Mesa CRJ, Freedom ERJ, Mesa Dash and Freedom CRJ - but that's just the odds, whole classes go to one equipment type sometimes.

I hope that's helpful.

I don't believe I've actually ever recommended that anyone come to Mesa. I do, however, believe that generally people tend to bash Mesa even when they have no first or even second hand experience with the company or any of the issues at the company.

I agree with you that a pilot shortage seems to be the only realistic way to get management to actually want to amend the contract, and this time with some better qualities.

I'm just tired that every post that is barely related to Mesa turns into a "Mesa sucks- run away as fast as you can" type thread, often times by people who once again don't have any real experience or facts to back up their statements.

JC is much better than APC and FI when it comes to this, and I want to keep it that way. So my goal is to provide real, accurate, unbiased feedback to anyone who wants info on Mesa. I'm not going to say that Mesa is the best regional and recommend that people come here, because it certainly isn't. But I'd rather we have a group of people that can actually answer someone's questions in a mature way, whether it be good feedback or bad. I know there are former Mesa employees (pilots, MX, dispatchers) on this site that have had bad experiences with Mesa, but I also know of other members who haven't had such a bad time.

I do not work at Mesa, but I jumpseat on them very frequently. My opinions are based on the conversations I've had with their crews.

If it's not that bad, I'd be really interested to know from the Mesa pilots here how many days off they get a month, what their ratio of block time to credit is, and how frequent involuntary junior manning is.

The lack of "block or better" and 8-10 days off a month that I hear about all the time are absolute deal-breakers for me. I would never recommend anyone go to a company like that.
