Airline Recruiting

I've talked to the recruiters and I discussed my wishes that I'd like to keep the recruiting event friendly and "accessible" and said that the attendees will be in business casual clothing instead of the standard interview attire.

If you're more comfortable in interview attire, that's fine, but they've been made aware that I'd like to keep things personal and warm.

I would heavily suggest NOT showing up in a t-shirt and jeans, however I think a interview suit would be overkill. Come, dress "business casual" and bring lots of questions and your enthusiasm.

This is a very rare opportunity to meet the actual recruiters and influential people of some regional airlines in a friendly environment.

Doug, anyone from SouthernJets coming?

Unfortunately not. I tried, but everyone was busy with other obligations and my "I'll make it if I can!" is a brand-new captain and has a reserve day that day :(

This is an awesome opportunity for somebody looking to move to a regional right now. "Business casual"...that beats the heck out of the normal stuffy "put on a suit for 2 minutes of face time".

Seggy will be buying me a burger during that time, so I won't be there. ;)

That said, best of luck to those who will be networking with the regionals in attendance. It's a great opportunity!

And...please, sit with the Eagle representative and listen to what they have to say.

Best of luck, ya'lll!

Just a quick clarification question, Are these recruiters looking for people eligible for employment now?
Or a better question, will they be receptive to a 150 hour wonder working on his IFR, that pops in just to say hi really, maybe let them know my plan and see what they think about it/give some advice?

My suggestion is to go there with a resume that reflects your current status. If you meet the mins great. If not it is a meet and greet. Imagine yourself in a few months writing a letter directly to the person you meet saying "Hi, it's me. We met at the Jetcareers.com Network event in Las Vegas. I am excited to let you know I now have met your minimum qualifications for a First Officer with your company. Attached you will find resume with my current flight times. As you may remember from our conversation in Las Vegas, I have been looking at your company as a prospective employer for a long time. Best, your-name"

Personally, all the great things that have happened to me in aviation are a result of networking like this.

Plus here they may actually remember who you are since this is probably the most intimate setting these recruiters have been in. It's a lot different than the line of people with suits at a Kit Darby job fair.

esp when there's little to no cost attached!!! :nana2:

Just remember that in order to talk to them, you DO NOT have to meet the current mins...even if your a PPL student or still working your way up to MEI, CFI etc...it's an absolutely FABULOUS opportunity to meet some of the folks who are taking applications of those who are qualified and can tell you what to expect, what to garner for and give you some rope to haul yourself to the right position in order to interview at the right time....

Plus, it puts a face to a name and you'd be surprised at how many call backs you get just based on the *right* people KNOWING just who you are.

you make your connections when you need them....from PPL on up, if your looking to be at a certain regional/airline/freight company then you want to start making these connections NOW.

If you already meet the quals, DEFINITELY bring your resume and i'm pretty darn sure they'll interview you on the spot (biz casual and all).

We want folks to get the information they need early on, put that face to a name (ie: make those contacts) and get a job if you're eligible. There's 2.5 hours of talk/mingle time, use it to your fullest advantage. stay as long as you want and really learn the steps you need to get to where you want to be, from the mouths of those that tell people "we want you at our company".....That's why we're providing this.

Wow, that is some fantastic advice!

I guess my theory is that you make friends before you need them and I think the same applies with potential employers.

Quick question:

Besides Khaki pants and no sandals or athletic shoes what exactly would business casual be? Polo shirt? Botton down long sleeve shirt?

I'm glad we're not doing full suit and tie, the cost of buying that would double what I have planned for the trip. I'll be one of the guys saying "Good to meet you, hopefully we'll talk more in a few months." I've got 150 hours and an IFR.
