got a call from MESA

I can see the FO's MFD being MEL'd, but REMOVED entirely is what was mentioned. THAT I have a hard time believing. Leave it there and put the little orange dot next to it until it's fixed, but don't take the friggin' thing out.

Yeah I do think that removing it would require taking things to the next level such as making a new weight and balance with a new basic operating weight.

Got this from the "ALPA Fastread" email:

Mesa Air pilots put up billboards across the country this week calling on management to address pilot quality of life, staffing and morale issues that are reaching critical levels and negatively impacting Mesa operations. Mesa Air Group pilots fly as Delta Connection, US Airways Express, United Express, Go Airlines and Mesa Airlines.
Mesa management’s unwillingness to honor the contract and solve problems has caused a mass exodus of skilled pilots—many of whom are even making lateral moves to other express-type carriers for better work rules and pay. So far this year, nearly 400 pilots have left Mesa Air Group, creating pilot shortages which, among other things, have led to flight delays and cancellations.

Having worked at Mesa's MX Control, and even though I despise Mesa with a passion, I can definitely tell you that didn't happen. I know the MX Control manager and he's one tough cookie and a pin in the azz. when it comes to MEL's. I can tell you thay unless the MFD went T/U during flight, it's grounded! To not even have one installed, that aicraft is going to sit there till it get one. Bombardier won't even give you a flyon to ferry that thing without a MFD.

I always answered my phone. I was able to refuse it if it was a hardship, but since I always tried to help them out they remembered it.
If I've been released from duty and scheduling calls (a/k/a the infamous "Uknown Caller") I don't answer. If it's my day off in the middle of vacation (which HAS happened) and/or the middle of a three-day off period, and they call - I don't answer. If it's a day off the day before I start duty and they call, I answer. Generally, it's good news.

One thing different about Mesa from Eagle or Midway for example, was that CT remembered when you did favors and often returned them. At the other airlines they would have sudden memory losses.
That would be Eagle. Never, ever do scheduling a "favor" because they absolutely will not be returning the favor. Ever. I have a great - read ABOVE AVERAGE- rapport with our schedulers, but I absolutely do not "do favors" for them.

However, I never felt that hostility that I got at Eagle....
Amen!

Overall, there is a hate-hate relationship between A.E. scheduling and Flight Crew.

JT speaks truth!

So Mesa might have gotten worse.

Any airline that hasn't since 9-11?

Southwest. I was hired there post 9-11, and the old timers said things were actually still improving from before then.

Scheduling at Eagle sounds like scheduling at Pinnacle. I did them a couple of favors back when I was new (aka didn't know better), and I have yet to have them returned.

"Hey, we really need to you to finish up this delayed flight, but it's gonna put you over 15.5 duty for the day. Can you waive that part of the contract and help us out?"
"Sure, no problem."

Fast forward three DAYS later.

"Yeah, I just got off a highspeed in DTW, and there's a flight leaving for MEM in 20 minutes. I'm scheduled to go to the hotel, sit for 10 hours, then come back tonight to fly home. Any way you can put me on this DH leaving in 20 minutes so I don't have to sit in the hotel for 10 hours? I know it'll put me over 15.5 for duty, but I'll waive that."
"Yeah, sorry. We can't do that. We have to stick to the contract. You'll have to go to the hotel, come back tonight and DH then."

No more favors since then.

Why are you at 9E?

Hehe.. That sounds about right.. :) I do zero favors..

heres a true story that oughta keep you the hell away from mesa

I was hired at 22 over the phone to be a dash 8 captain. theres alot more involved, but just the fact they would do this, should keep you away.

i now work at a real airline, xjet. its worth the wait to get on with a good airline, even if means freight doggin it for a year or so

You can do that without an ATP?

Although I would never really do favors for scheduling, I have done things they wanted me to do that really helped me in some way, while making it sound like I was doing them a favor. And though it is rare, once or twice they did return the 'favor.'

One thing that Mesa was known for doing was hiring guys to be "Dash 8 Captains" and then once you got done with ground school they put you into the FO seat.. :)

Ask yourself why guys are spending months and years in the right seat at Mesa and still leaving for other regionals even though they're close to upgrade. Personally I think you are better off doing whatever you are doing now for few more months, even a year than going to mesa.

thats what i said, after months of being told story after story, and hearing every instructor and employee down the place, i said the hell with them. Bottom line is the trainings no good, as least from my experience, and i havent meet anyone happy there, or at the very least would even consider stayin ther long term. Compared to Xjet, where most every instructor i had bypassed a job with CAL, and while there are still pepoel that bitch, overall most are happy and will be if they never "move up" in the world.

Thanks for all the feedback...Despite all not so good reviews I think I'll give them a shot to prove me wrong. I'll go for the interview experience and if they offer me a job..I'll will think it over long and hard before I commit to it....Once again...Thank you. :bandit:

If you accept, I'm callin it right now 3 months before you start a thread about how you hated working at Mesa and are now making a lateral move!

:)
