SATS Air Hiring

[t:mad:Thanks for info. I just talked to a Satsair Pilot in PDK and He said he thought they would be closing the doors shortly....No pilots and unable to complete their flights. Most everyone looking for another Job. Thanks again...i think I'll stay away. Don't know if true...just what I heard!

500 PIC p135 carries more weight than 500 SIC in a turbine.

Absolute bull$#$t. A few people have left. Management is working on improved QOL, more pay, etc. and new customers still coming on board steadily.

You aren't really bragging about that are you?

Yes. 45K would be unreasonable (unless a pilot had been there for quite a few years).

500 PIC p135 carries more weight than 500 SIC in a turbine.

Your comment and those of many others are rather cryptic, so you must help me to better understand the pros and cons of this position.

45K sounds like a pretty good interim pay. 45k in the SE part of the country NO secretary makes to my knowledge unless they've been there for many, many years.

I'm simply looking for something more concrete to gain a perspective on what type of pilot this company desires. Not trying to be disrespectful, but the comments that have been posted previously don't provide a clear understanding of who should apply or what the pros and cons are within the organization.

The post that you quoted was taken from a response to ashtonATL. He made the comparison to a secretary and made up the 45K number. According to the first post, they pay 27K.

Thanks for the clarification. So, their start is 27K. Is that a little or a lot for a pilot with 1200TT? A Cirrus 22 seems like something a lower time pilot should be proficient to fly with a CSEL and perhaps 500+TT?

Right now, someone with 1200TT in my opinion would be looking for regionals, multis, and turbines with those hours.

They (Satsair) don't seem to get the picture of why Pilots are bailing out faster than they can hire them.[/quote}

So, why are pilots bailing?

It's not, "27K a year." It's salary based on 27K for the first six months, then jumps to 33K so that means 30K for the first year. Second year is 36K. Not too terribly bad for 4 on 3 off, know your schedule a month in advance and work with good people, have a lot of variety in your flying, fly a fun, capable, well equipped plane, etc.

So, what's the downside to this pay compensation especially flying a single engine 4 seater?

I dont think they have a problem with people bailing, prob a good job for someone retired who wants to keep flying... trouble is after 1200 hrs (what they wan as a min) there is nothing you can do with single engine sr22 time.. nothing. If the pay was decent (38K after a couple years still sucks) ,and someone likes that kind of flying -it would be a good job I think.. but as it is , its a dead end. thats there problem....

I did a little project on them for my masters, and must say - they offer a great value for the small business- with block time its cheaper than operating your own company sr22 at better than 50 hours a year flown...

...trouble is after 1200 hrs...there is nothing you can do with single engine sr22 time.. nothing.

You better not tell Chautauqua...They just hired Lloyd after (I'm guessing)1000 hrs in a C210.
I also flew the C210 and feel I have done quite well. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. To say it gets you nowhere is pretty short sited.

im not saying it gets you no where.. not saying that at all... , just that after you get to ATP level of flying it doesn't have any value to your next employer.. if its not multi piston or turbin the insurance company wont care

 Be wary of this Operation. I've been at SATS for over a year and I can tell you that the place is a mess. We Fla. pilots have it easier than most of the pilots at Sats .Their big Fla. operations plan Has been a giant bust and we are here and they don't know what to do! They can't keep pilots cause the don't really tell the truth when they sign you on about time away from home...long duty days...and run out aircraft that are breaking down faster than they should. Maint. does a yoeman job keeping the planes flying. The same people who ran "Rhino Aviation" run this operation. Send me a p.m. if you like. p.s. I will be leaving right after New Year begins.:)

What a bunch of BS! The only true statement is that Florida has been slow to start. So from your post you sound like you're complaining about this and also about everyone else too busy. "This place is too slow, and it's too busy." Give me a break. It's a new growing company.

The statement about not telling people the truth in the interview and what they're getting into -- absolutely flat false! I was told when I interviewed that I might be on the road up to six days fairly often. (That was when they were doing 6 on 3 off and then they went to 4/3 right before I was hired.) I've heard other guys tell me during I.O.E. about their interviews, and I've had other pilots tell me they were asked to talk to interviewees and "tell them EVERYTHING -- we want them to know what they're getting into, try to scare them out of it if you can, we'd rather have them leave now if they're not going to like it". It is a flying job and, guess what? you will be gone sometimes.

The maintenance is excellent. No person and no machine is absolutely perfect, but this maintenance department does a great job and pilots are NEVER asked to take a plane the pilot doesn't think is safe to take or not write up a plane. I've got about 750 hours in the plane now and I've only had to cancel for MX 2 times. I would say that's as good as most airlines, if not better. Add to that maybe about 10-15 minor "code two" writeups that were fixed promptly and a few electronic glitches with the Avidyne stuff that is usually fixed with a "reboot." But no major problems.

If you don't like it leave, but don't falsely trash the company and spread BS.

If you know about Rhino, and think they were bad, then you shouldn't have taken the job in the first place?

Hope you find something you like better and wish you the best, but don't slander a good company on the way out.

:yeahthat: I found out about Rhino after I hired on. I was desperate for a job then but no longer. You really have sipped the "koolaid". Just tell me why so many Pilots are leaving, me included. When i was hired the Co. said they would try and get us home every day....see Co literature in the pilot section. Where are all the promised new airplanes? It's a Big pyramid game, and You my friend are too blind too see it! Good luck in the future with this Great Company!

I just sent a resume today, anyone know if Satsair is still hiring??? I'm ATP rated with 4100 hours and 640 of SR-22 time so I'm hoping I'll hear something.

Still actively hiring. I think the goal is 6 per month in class. What base(s) is/are you trying for?

Good luck!

Well I can obviously tell why some think it's a dead end job. . .se piston flying. . .yeah, that'll get you your 1000 TPIC to go one elsewhere.

Sounds like a great job if you're a 50 something.

Skydweller, I'm located in Hendersonville, North Carolina, just 15 minutes by air from GMU. I don't know if that helps or hurts.
I'm currently flying a first generation SR-22 for a small company but we went from 400 hours of flying last year to less than 100 this year.
I'm 43 and have NO desire to move out of the mountains so this would be a great gig if I could work out of GMU.

Well, that's the easiest one to get since it's the home base. All the others are only 2-3 pilots. Keep me posted on how it goes. Did you do the online submission or mail in? (I'd suggest doing both just to be sure, or better yet, drop by and hand your resume to Tony Hanson -- he's the Chief Pilot; office is in the back corner of TAC Air FBO.)

I got a canned email form Dustin Bragg today, thanking me for my resume, and asking me to update if my circumstances change. I guess they won't be calling me any time soon!
