So what would you folks say about the exchange I had a few days ago?
One of the controllers must have had a stuck mike because I talked to her, got my request approved and she said "he sounds like my ex-boyfriend."
My retort was, "I dunna, are you hot?"
There was dead silence on the frequency for a few seconds, and then someone piped in "yeah, are you?"
Any Chance you can quit saying Any chance? Just ask for what you want.
And another thing...Got the runway insight ,....when it helps...
as apposed to what? When its not helpful? Get over your ego and the fact you dont want to sound dumb by calling the field early.
At least it's straight out of the pilot/controller glossary. Not that I've heard anyone else use it.

I do! :rawk:I think I'm the only person on this planet who actually says "negative contact".
This is a very interesting thread... I would like to add a few things.
My opinion ... we are all professionals... lets sound like it.
Sometimes we have the field insight, but are too far away to accept the visual.
Also, on the visual into SFO and other large airports we have the field insight, but are aware they can not give us the vis because of other traffic inbound from other areas. It is generally understood that when we advise field insight, we want the visual clearance. I've noticed that if we add, "when it helps", the controller knows we are aware that the visual approach may not be feasable yet, but we're ready when it is.
yep . . . huh . . . only meee . . . I'm the one uh huh (in best cartoon voice)Guess we know who is saying this now.

BUt anything with a Plural Company Name is way worse!
Did you know that Comair's actual callsign is 'Aaaannnnnd Comairs'?
You can also get burned. I flew with a CA that said this once coming into MEM on a downwind at 6000 feet.
"Flagship XXXX has the field if it helps"
"Flagship XXXX cleared visual approach runway 36L."
