Pinnacle???

I could care less where someone went to flight school. As long as they are a competent crewmember when they get to MY level, I don't care. Newbies out there, go and get whatever YOU think you need in order to get ahead with your career. Don't let other's opinions sway you.

You're gonna say that until UPS starts selling out the seat next to you for "training" at $50,000 for 100 hours.

EDIT: And I know this is an extreme example, but the concept fits right?

"When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out."

Sure we're not talking about people being gassed here, but the concept remains the same; where do you draw the line in the sand and say, "This is unacceptable on ANY level and as a professional, I should make that my fellow pilots don't have to deal with this crap and do whatever I can to make sure there's a stop to it because it might not be my job today, but what if it is tomorrow?"

LOL Jtrain!!!!

This is now the second time you've compared PFTing to Naziism!

If you are taking relating PFTing and Nazi-ism to face value than there is something else wrong here.

On another hand, why do you think PSA, TSA minimums are so low? Maybe because pilots are finally realizing they don't want to work for such a piece-of-sh** company that merely hires for a heart beat? I could get hired there now as well without even having my CFI certificate and not even 300 hours, so if all I wanted was a job why would I bother even studying to get my CFI, II, or MEI?

It comes down to not wanting to work for a piece of sh** company and realizing that us, as pilots, are worth more than that - we just have to prove that to the airlines. However, with people like GS and places like that, it is very difficult to do since they realize people have SJS and will pay to sit in that seat.

I also see where the older pilots are coming from. You have to realize a lot of the older pilots here that are no CAs or flying majors had to work "harder" that most training pilots now. They got their ratings up to CFI, II, MEI and then were forced to CFI for several years getting up towards 1500TT and 500ME time to get that interview, whereas people now can get hired with 600TT and 100TT, so of course they have a bias towards doing the CFI route and "paying their dues". The pilots on this forum could also look at me as that I am short-changing them. I am still getting my CFI, II, and MEI and will be instructing for a year or so before I hopefully go to a regional, but I will also not have to get as many flight hours as they will - so it is purely opinion on who is having to work harder to get where they want to go - however I would also rather "earn" my certificates by making myself study rather than getting it spoon-fed, but maybe that is just me.

i think the point from most of the older pilots on this forum and correct me if I am wrong:), is that by going to CFI,II, MEI route you are gaining valuable experience that you can not duplicate. For those who went through the military they too also got that valuable experience. I dont think the low timers are so much the issue but rather that people feel they deserve to get to fly for a airline because they went to so and so flight school that promises you a interview or right seat time. I mean low timers is an issue but it is not as bad as the person who goes to these bridge programs that take you from nothing to something in a year.
But i could be all wrong and i understand that it might be something else that is driving this situation. I am a low time pilot as well but i plan to instruct for a little more here where i am at and go to airlines because of financial stability. I know I have alot to learn and even though I have flight instructed it does not mean I am better or at the same level as a guy who has flow for 20 years and has there ATP flying jets all day, but rather I will be a little more prepared to deal with training and situations that may arise during my IOE and first couple of years. You guys have a good day and fly safe. :)

Wow.

As I stated in my post, TWICE, the point isn't the nazi's, it's about drawing a line and saying, "This is unacceptable, and we won't let it happen." Mainline guys are not complaining about this stuff because it's not their jobs.

But one day it will be.

Do you see the parallel? Or do I need to draw out a picture?

I know what you were trying to say, but your analogy was ridiculous. I laughed cause I had seen it before, in one of the 'to PFT or CFI' threads from last year.

The reason I believe you gain such valuable experience by being a CFI is because it's like crew member training. You go day in and day out watching your students back, discovering and correcting all of their errors, having to communicate with the student and atc simultaneously, and lets not forget teaching. This is good for CRM and interacting as a crew member. It should not be as tough of a transition to go from CFI to FO.

As a 250 hr pilot, you are used to being told what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Even during training for the FO job, you're being told by your instructor, what to do, when to do it, how to do it. So you never get anytime in between flight training and FO training to get out there and make your own decision.

I also don't buy the "All a CFI is doing is flying around the patch and building time" bull crap that people try to throw out sometimes. IF all you did as a CFI was "fly around the patch", you did your students a huge disservice and they will not be well rounded patches because of it.

Wow. This is one of the biggest "I got mine" statements I've seen in this thread. Essentially, correct me if I'm wrong, you don't have a problem with CAs flying in the same airsapace into the same airports being overworked b/c they have to babysit the guy next to them just so long as it isn't YOU? But hey, I guess whatever furthers the low time right seater's career, huh....

Not many commuters up flying when I'm at work. Ya'll must be taking your "naps". Why do you "babysit" another crewmember? If they are incompetent, have them removed from your flight.

It's not really that simple when economics are involved.

Remember, not every carrier out there can properly staff with 100% qualified applicants.

If we removed the incompetent crewmembers, the regionals would have about 25% fewer FOs, and the majors would lose about 25% of their pilots. It's just not that easy. A CA at a regional is now subletly also a flight instructor. IOE just doesn't do the trick like it used to.

Is it time for this guy yet?
