AOPA Petition Against User Fees

Personally, I'm disgusted by people who want something for nothing. You want to engage in your GA hobby? Pay up.

We already do pay for a/c registrations, fuel taxes, and if the plane is large enough landing fees also to help fund that specific airport. Why do you want to let the airlines off. They are pushing this system because will drop the tax they pay and push it more off on GA flying. Allowing them to make greater profits.

The current system we have is fair. The more you fly the more you pay because your are paying more in fuel taxes and landing fees if they apply.

Have you ever studied the European system for GA. It doesn't work. Why do you think those countries send students over here to get trained. It is a lot cheaper. It cost about 1/2 money to get a private in the US as it does in Europe.

If these fees get imposed it may kill General Aviation then the Feds will actually be collecting less tax as their tax base decreases. Then what do you think will happen. They will go back after the airlines who use the majority of the system. Then you probably will be complaining your ticket went up 50 bucks.

I paid for ATC services. I paid taxes. They come out of every one of my paychecks.

So will you please stop your nonsensical rantings of how GA pilots don't pay?

Unless, of course, you like being factually inaccurate.

Also note that I pay fuel tax everytime I fly, no matter where I fly, even if I use no FAA services. In that regard, the airlines are getting something for nothing.

Velocipede's profile says he is supposedly a major airline captain. I guess now that he made it, he no longer cares about the small guy. I wonder how he got his training? Either military (tax payers paid for his training) or GA. He should go back and reimburse the government for all the training he got before user fees. :yup:

My troll-dar is also going off.

Eh, he's just an airline watchdog. Government trained with our tax dollars and not knowledgable with GA or those of us that choose to follow this path. Simply put, ignorance is the mother of all evil, and since I'm nearly positive all he does is fly for an airline (which again pays for all of the services he uses) it's easy to ride the "Make'em pay" bandwagon. :bandit:

GA hobby? its funny how this hobby brings in millions of dollars to local economies, trains basically ALL of the pilots for the entire world (non-military), and is the finest run airspace system in the world.

Sure theres problems, but compared to the rest of the world its is much better. I like to compare user fees for the NAS to making all interstate highways (or any roads that recieve federal funding for that matter) into toll roads...ya gotta pay for your driving hobby right? gimme a break. Control and funding of the NAS is purely a function of government since that is the only way to maintain equal access and above all safety for everyone.

Guys, lets just leave this Velo clown alone. He isnt worth our time and everytime this topic comes up he tries to defend it in the most idiotic way. His ideas are not worth our time and he has already been labeled as a troll once on here. Just let the clown be, he can continue to make a fool of himself without us getting all upset over it.........

I agree to some extent with that but unfortunately with crap like this the loudest usually wins. Just look at congress and the presidency. Whoever spends the most usually wins. It is going to take a huge effort for GA to fight off congress and the uneducated out there + the greedy airline mgmt types. Who want their taxes removed.

GA qua hobby costs the taxpayers nothing. All I need is a grass strip to land and a box of air to do my dance.

Then you have no need to pay for the NAS. You don't use it. But, if you want to file a flight plan, go IFR and clutter up the terminal areas with your doctor-killer, then pay your fair share. Personally, I'm sick of having to dodge the idiot beachcombers in SoCal everytime I go to SNA or LGB. If it takes taxation to get them out of the way, so be it.

I think this should be in german.... HAIL HITLA!!!! :rawk::sarcasm:

Very nice, Jarhead. However, the bottom line is that in high traffic terminal areas, GA "junior birdmen" are a safety hazard. Now, out in the country where they can't hurt anybody but themselves, fine and dandy. You want free flying, join the military and serve the country like I did.

User fees will destroy an amazing thing about this country: The fact that any average Joe, can turn his/her dreams of aviation into reality.

Go to Europe, and take a look at GA.....is pretty much only accessible to the wealthy.

I don't have any data, but it seems logic, that if GA in th US becomes like GA in Europe, you'll see a lot jobs, (directly or indirectly related to GA)along with something that makes this country unique, gone for ever.

So I'm guessing because I serve and DON'T fly, I'm a lesser being and not entitled to anything except a grass strip and a cellphone for aid huh? And as for those of us who live in big terminal areas, we're really screwed. I learned to fly in Orlando, at a D airport, because that's all there was for 50 miles, under the third layer of a B shelf. Well, there goes business at these flight schools, a lot of these airports will lose business because I'm not paying more than a landing fee for a facility which was taylored to GA aircraft anyway, and I guess we won't even need D airspace because no one will be able to afford the services like $4.60 100LL and ramp fees and user fees and landing fees. The death of an industry, regulated to the ground by government. Sounds good. I might as well do my flight training in Vietnam or Cuba. I hear they regulate some stuff too.

If people want to debate the topic, fine. If name calling and epithets is more your style you will be requested to "move on" somewhere else.

I understand that feelings run strong on topics like these, but that doesn't mean that doing things like using a derogatory tone of *voice* on one side or labeling someone a troll on the other are acceptable behaviors.
