AOPA Petition Against User Fees

Re: Petition Against User Fees

I gotta agree with Velocipede on this one. I, for one, think it would clean up the streets if we started charging all these freeloaders who drive on public roads. I wouldn't have to worry about some low-class scum with no insurance plowing into me, if we simply charged them off the roads.

While we are at it, why the hell don't we start charging people for the public library? I hate, that every time I go in there, some little kid is grabbing my copy of The Pet Goat before I get to it. We should charge those little bastards to kingdom come, and hopefully, that will get rid of them.

How about public parks? Get those freeloaders away from my water fountains and the swings! And ALL sidewalks should be pay to use. Get all those non-walking types off the walkways of America. Make them walk on the street, possibly getting hit by cars (Who are also paying to drive there)lol :whatever: :rotfl:

I've got it! "PAY TO PEE"! No free public restrooms here ladies and gentlemen!! 'What? You don't have $5, but you gotta go? Sorry buddy. Can't help ya out.' :sarcasm:

Before ya know it, everybody and their brother is watering your lawn, or fertilizing your garden...

Apparently you are not of the age to remember pay toliets! They were everywhere back in the day. There was also pay showers, but that was near the Grand Canyon.

When do I pay for the road I drive on? Tax? ;)

No, but if you want to use the toll road, you pay the toll. The truckers pay a higher toll.

Similarly, if you want to fly your Cessna out in the sticks from a grass strip, you don't pay. You want to fly it in L.A., pay for the ATC services in the airspace.

Yeah, I may not be as "young" as some of you guys...and I don't guess I've heard about the pay toilets. But we all know what I was getting at...:D But I'm pondering that there were reasons they did away with those.

Does your park at home? I'd assume no. The real thing in question here is you're lack of true reasoning. First it's Corporate jets, which, ok I can understand a little. But you want to hit a 172SP with the same fee for what? Making you go 2 miles to the left? As it stands I don't see too many airlines getting pushed out of the way for a bug-smasher. If YOU want to save money and have less traffic, well then slam into a 152, that'll show'em. But you want money, less traffic, safety? What? Make up your mind. You can't have them all.

truckers pay higher toll because of weight, etc right? doesn't a 737 weigh a lot more than a 172 and hence requires more user fees?

On a side note to this: It is interesting that although there are no longer supposed to be tolls on I-90 (New York Thruway), they still collect them long after the project had been paid for.

Anyway, I thought the issue was that corporate planes flying their 'fatcat' bosses around (a bad stereotype) are not paying their fair share. Whether that argument holds ground or not, in reality it appears you don't really care about any of that, you just don't like general aviation, am I wrong?

"Personally, I'm sick of having to dodge the idiot beachcombers in SoCal everytime I go to SNA or LGB. If it takes taxation to get them out of the way, so be it."

Do you really care about people paying what you consider their 'fair share'? How does this affect you personally; Or do you just have a vendetta against GA? If the reason you want user fees is to make it cost prohibitive for GA in a lot of situations, okay, feel that way: But don't hide behind some sort of false notion of fairness. Say what you mean.

I think people should cut down on the flaming and such, everyone has a reason for feeling a certain way, whether it's agreeable or not :D

I'm down with holding hands and singing kumbayah.

I just want to know why velocipide thinks it's cool I should pay a second time for something my tax dollars already went to pay for!

Correct. Airliners would pay more. I'm not saying GA should pay the same as the airlines. Just that they should shoulder part of the financial burden of operating the system. Right now, it costs nothing for them to use the system. And that's not fair.

but GA does pay for the system through the federal fuel taxes, they dont' burn 20,000lbs of fuel in a flight so they dont' pay as much in taxes, hence they are not paying as much, but they are paying. even if they AREN'T using the services, they are still paying through the fuel taxes.

If it was just a fixed rate like $10 flight that was just added to the rate of the aircraft or to fuel when you first take it up then it may be decent. It's still a kick in the goods but GA could live. But $15 for every XW-BRIEF call, $30 to file IFR or a VFR flight plan, $20 to transition a Bravo shelf, thats just plain stupid and unsafe for GA, corporate and Airlines.

Right, you've said this before. But is that really your motivation for your support?

Velo,

I am too am a 121 pilot flying large aircraft. I however, don't see why the small guys bug you so much. You actually, think the airlines will pay more, if the airlines get what they want they will be given a tax break and also be given a lot of control of the fee structure...

You think you have a problem now with small planes. I bet you'll see a lot guys start scud running, flying IFR without filing, etc if user fees get imposed...:panic:

So what do your big 121 flyers think about the following.

Increased user fees, means less GA, means less training occuring.

Means, less pilots to join the workforce.

So - is this your way of getting Age 65 passed? Have user fees take a big hit out of GA, and have Age 65 so you guys can reap your 150k-200k annual income while everyone who wants to come into the career force is unable to?

While I did serve in the military, not all aviators WANT to serve in the military killing people.
