Since we all care about Hockey...

I was quoting WDAZ news on this. They need to get their facts straight. I don't know why the local news was on my TV because I never watch it.

I used to watch WDAZ every night just so I can laugh at when they messed up...I mean seriously, how hard is it to read a teleprompter?

Do you even read or do you just come up with ideas on your own. All the money was and always will be by private donations. There are a few with deep pockets (Engelstad family) who will finance this for a while. Besides the lawsuit was only agreed upon by the SBOHE if it is paid for by private donations ONLY!!!!

They can only donate so much and eventually some of the cost will be paid by the students in fees. Oh and I'm not only talking about the lawsuit fees. I'm also talking about the move to D-I in general will cost the students money.
Oh and you might want to read this

Apparently the private fund has been closed.

Well, you have a choice between Conservative news or wacky Liberal news. ;)

Fox just plain sucks butt at just reporting the news. Then you have Bill O'reilly, who is probably the biggest piece of crap on the planet.

I can ignore the B.S. on CNN enough to actually get news reported to me. Still sucks, but they're better than the rest.

Heh, I have to give Bill O'Reilly some credit, though. First of all, he's a very well-informed conservative, no matter how much I disagree with his stances and basic philosophies about life. Second and I think most important, he's very good at not setting himself up to get blasted for being just plain ignorant or unfair. Part of that comes from being the host of a show, but he is very good at what he does. He is definitely more of a fair analyst than what he gets credit for, and he just happens to side with the right when it comes to politics. Do I absolutely hate Fox News? Yes, definitely. I am even guilty of sending an angry critical e-mail to Bill back in my high school days before I realized that that some issues are not Bill, but more Fox News propaganda, with Bill just being the right wing guy with great logic to justify his cause. After sort of reading through the lines with his show (I don't really watch it that often, but have done so for certain projects or to see a certain guest), I can say that O'Reilly actually has my respect.

you guys are totally delusional if you think O'Reilly spews anything more than 100% hot-air.

Well whether you like him or hate him, he has rationale behind everything he says, so I definitely respect that. Unfortunately, he shapes the opinions of millions of lost Americans (the "bewildered herd" as Noam Chomsky would say), and I personally think his school of thought is out-dated, to say the least. But, he is respectable, in my opinion.

i cannot respect someone who espouses perspectives and lines of thinking that in my opinion are the very reason why our once great country is on the wane.

limiting civil liberties, religious intolerance and evangelism, bigotry, racism, etc.

But he is just playing to the audience of people that most likely agree with him, whether they are as educated as him or not. I have never ever heard Bill blatantly discriminate against anybody or any organization on purpose. Most of his discrimination is probably due to his values, and obviously religious beliefs. While his religious ideals and his values naturally limit how open he is to other people, and shape his controversial line of thinking, he is definitely not the only person in the world that is this way, and he is also not as extreme or as dangerous as many other people. He is also very well educated. I guess my point is that way too much energy is wasted on using Bill O'Reilly as a sort of posterboy for all of America's problems, when the problem really lies in the viewers. I really believe if more people would look beyond the major news networks, and became more educated about current events, rather than having opinions spoon-fed to them by Fox News or whoever else, then people like Bill O'Reilly probably would not be on the air. He is just playing to a market, though.

i understand he is just selling a product to a market, but its absolutely terrifying that there are millions of people who think similarly, and he is only serving to reinforce those ideas.

Exactly. I honestly don't know where the root of the problem would really be. Propaganda in our country goes all the way back to before we entered WWI. News media in the U.S. has been doing an amazing job at instilling fear in many Americans, and something like the O'Reilly factor just plays off of it, and I think it is safe to say that many of those viewers are not intelligent enough to use some meta-cognition about what they watch, and this all too easily shapes the opinions and beliefs of an alarming number of people. I agree though. Definitely sad. I just believe that the responsibility lies not with O'Reilly, but really the people to just become more informed and conscious about everything going on around them.

Guys, TV, like everything, is a business. If you think there's any motive to anything on TV other than to make money for (insert network here), you're completely off base.

I agree that their motive is to make money. However, when bad journalism that rarely tries to get to the bottom of things, rather just sticking a mic in front of a Democrat and then a Republican, is coupled with politics that are obviously not out to serve the interests of people, to say the least, then you get millions of people being steered in the wrong direction (being distracted from the bigger picture by getting caught up with gays, guns, abortion, immigration, etc.) while their way of life gets thrown under the bus, unfortunately. Just my perspective, though.
