9 Days Off Awarded...

Whoa!!! You gotta be kidding?! If my memory servers our min is 10 days off (which sucks to begin with). Something has to be wrong. Has a call been placed yet?

Yeah the min is 10. How the hell did you get 9... When I first read it I thought you were gonna say you got 9 off in a row. I should have known better!

Comp day for the next month? Oh yeah, that's here we have that if they take us below 10 days off....

...which is why PBS sucks. I just turned 10 days of vacation into what will become 30+ days off in a row in March/April.

Although I fear we are stuck into going to PBS because everyone else has, and it saves so much money.

Holy Crap!! I'd talk to your CP about that--that's no bueno. I'm pretty sure we're a minimum of 10 days too.

I've never understood how PBS can be such a kind, loving partner one month and then so cruel the next.

PBS = Pretty Bad Sh*t :D

I have ten off this month. Im also working the last two days of march and the first two of may, I don't get how this is going to be legal.....we need more pilots.

They're trying to cram PBS down our throats starting in May. Basically, we're so understaffed they need it to make sure everything is covered. I think they finally realized people don't answer their phones on their days off, so flying won't get covered that way.

The union is fighting it tooth and nail since the company pretty much said "Look, we know it's not going to work well, so just bear with us until we get the kinks worked out." Huh? I thought that's why we run a 6-12 month parallel system, to work the kinks out. Instead, we've been running it parallel in order for us to "figure out" how it works. The company and scheduling don't have a clue how the "magic program" works. It also says in our LOA that the company must provide training for pilots to become knowledgable and profficient with the bidding software. All they've given us is a booklet explaining what the options are, not how to go about using them. So, we've got two pretty much lock solid reasons to hold it off until the company gets it in gear.....hopefully.

It was gonna start in April, but that got shut down fast. The pairing were already generated, so now we've not only got ready reserve back in MEM.....but MEM now has HIGHSPEEDS! Those highspeed lines are the ONLY lines not 91+ hours of credit, too.

I got hosed in my bid too. Top 1/3 of senority in my base and I have a 6 day work block and a 5 day work block - each preceeded by two days off - and less time off then I did last month for the SAME credit. FTW. And I bid workblock size 2 to 4 and minimum 3 days off between workblocks. Oh, and my last layer matched 100% of the pairings and yet PBS still resolved outside my bid. (LN) Seriously, FTW!

We don't have a guarantee for days off. We have a guarantee for maximum DUTY days. It's 20 per bid window. BIG, BIG, BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG difference between the two. Yet, FAs have 19!

Don't blame PBS, blame oh umm nevermind! :)

PBS is a fantastic tool, but unless you've got a PBS QC committee with authority, the company can manipulate it to maximize utilization and they'll just shrug and say, "We're sorry! It's PBS!"

It's not PBS. It's crew scheduling.

Get a QC committee, re-run the bids until it 'looks right'.

I agree I like the *idea* of PBS but the way it's **implemented** around here leaves a LOT to be desired.

Oh, and we're non-union. But the Kool-Aid sure does taste great! :sarcasm:

WOW are you serious?? Wait a second, if it matched 100% of the pairings, couldn't PBS have given you ANYTHING, and it would have matched??

A lot of the captains I've flown with are really fed up with the idea that if you didn't get what you wanted, you bid wrong. I mean, how many ways can you bid - it's not that hard.

I asked for a particular 4 days off on all 7 layers. The reason I didn't get it?? "CN" coverage flying because of lack of staffing! I hope that means that each and every FO junior to me is also working those days... (ha!)

Course, it's a double edged sword because my seniority wouldn't be nearly as high if we weren't hiring the way we are.
