Comair Training

I just starting class today at Comair and figured I would kinda write a day to day diary. Hopefully this will help other people out, or at least give some insight into 121 training.

Got into Cincinnati last night. Met up with 2 other guys who are in my training class. We went out and got some food and watched the superbowl. After that we talked about our expierences in aviation and had basically a get to know each other conversation. Then we went back to the hotel and got a good nights rest. Comair is actually putting us up in a very nice hotel. Most of us are staying at the Holiday Inn and a few others at the Radisson.

Day 1

Woke up at 6:45 to catch a 7:45 shuttle to the General Offices. The class on the first day did not start till 8:30. At 8:30 sharp we were met by one of our instructors and led into a conference room with about 50 other people. They gave us some water and coffee and we sat down for a long day. This was just the general company improcessing. We started off with some paperwork, then listened to some speakers followed by more paperwork. Next thing was lunch. Comair provided us with lunch today which was pretty good. Then after lunch more paperwork and more briefers. Then pictures for Crew badges and airport badges. We finally got wraped up around 5:30. Went back to the hotel and the pilots at the Holiday Inn went to Applebees for dinner. Very good day and looks like we have a pretty good class. We all come from a pretty good variety of flying backgrounds which helps make it fun. Tommorow we start at 8:00. So I am not sure what we have in store for us. But we are excited to be here.

welcome aboard! and did i read correctly that most of you guys are in the Holiday Inn????? most everybody in the classes before you are are here at the Raddison. hell, holiday Inn would be a big upgrade from here....but i bet you don't have a prostitution ring running out of the H.I. now do ya? :)

Welcome aboard playa! I finished training about 4-5 months ago so if you need any help PM me. Holiday Inn? You guys are lucky. They put my class up in the lovely Raddison of Covington. Crank addicts included.

"Just a suggestion"

Here's a real suggestion for you.

Don't post anymore here until after IOE. You got better things to do....

Speaking of that, any hints on AQP, DE? I did the "old school" mad dog school back in 2000, but I'm doing the "new school" AQP (mostly DVD self-study) for the 75/76.

surfbas,

Is Comair making you pay for any training? There was speculation in the below thread (started somewhere on page 2) by some folks that they will be requiring folks to pay for their own training.

Once again, I was saying their "RJ prep course" was what they were possibly going to farm out or charge for. Make sure if you're going to sit there and argue about something, you at least argue about what the discussion was. I did not say they were doing a full PFT thing. I said their new "RJ prep course" for the reduced minimums would have to be paid for.

As an addition...the reason I had said what I did was the Comair web site had originally posted different minimums for their RJ course (if memory serves correctly), but looking at their web site now, it's the same minimums for all people, and they are including the RJ prep course. It's now an entirely different situation than was posted on their web site in the past.

Also, congrats on the gig.

no way they'll charge for the RJ prep, can't even get enough guys in the door with it being free.

First I've heard that one. But these days anything is possible I guess. No there is no pay for play here anyway. I am going to start a flight blog and update that periodically. I was not aware they existed. That would be a better place for this. Thanks to the peeps who gave the congrats.

"but I'm doing the "new school" AQP"

Not sure you guys have a written for the oral or a real oral. The F/O's at UPS on the 75/76 only have to do a written and there are sample questions out floating about. When I study for AQP, I go over the questions first. Next, we have an oral exam guide that condenses the systems manual into a 40 page document. It's the meat of what you need to know, so I study that hard. The last thing I do is read the systems manual over once and do the systems disks, again.

As far as doing the disks the first time. I'd say try to do a little extra each day so you'll have time left over to work on your weak areas. I thought the disks were pretty good and liked it better than a formal ground school but sometimes it's hard to stay awake. The Martha King syndrome sets in. Some guys will want you to study with them. For me, I do much better on my own than in a group environment. Do whatever's best for you.

Don't hesitate to ask me about anything that pops up. I probably won't know off the top of my head but can look it up. Did you ever get a link to that guy who has an internet study guide for the 767? It was for pax operation so I had to be careful for differences, but I thought it was excellent. I'll dig it up if you don't have it. I found some parts of the UPS systems manual to be lacking in certain areas so I'd go to studied this guys material a bit. He also had some great sample questions.

Thanks bro, I'm going to have a ZILLION questions. It seems clear and logical, but I've got such a killer grasp of the MD-88/90 that I'd like to have that same feeling with the 757/767. I guess I'm not really too keen on being a 'newbie' again.

hey doug do you know jack cook? hes a ca on the baby mad dog.........(hense the daddy mad dog would hafta be the 11) haha

You're not going to have any problem. The -88 transition to the 75/76 is a pretty simple one. The 727 to the 75/76, on the other hand, tripped up lots of guys.

"The 727 to the 75/76, on the other hand, tripped up lots of guys"

Ohhh...why did you have to remind me of that...

I almost had almost forgotten those memories.

I've been digging into the manuals whenever I have a chance (which reminds me, I gotta hit the books again and get off the forum) and every other page I think "Wow, that makes sense... I wonder why Douglas didn't think of that..." :)

Why, because Boeing builds planes, and Douglas builds character! :)

Day 2
Woke 0600 to catch the 0745 shuttle to ground school, which started at 830 sharp. Talked about Regs. Had lunch. Talked about Regs after lunch. Went back to the hotel. One of my classmates wanted to go drinking. I decided I need to be serious, buckle down and study about Exemption 3585.

Day 3-
Woke up 0615 to catch 0745 shuttle for 830 ground school class. More Regs, lunch and then more Regs. During class, I learned I was able to hold my breath for 1:35 seconds, which seems to be my personal best. Back to the hotel to study. Decided to go grab a beer and dinner with some of the guys. One of them had the Indoc test. I studied it until I passed out at midnight.

Day 4-
Up at 645. There's a shuttle that leaves at 815, caught that. 830 ground school, more Regs. Can now hold my breath for 1:42 seconds. Indoc test tomorrow. Went drinking tonight.

Day 5-
Up at 800, made the 815 shuttle. Didn't shave. Indoc test. Passed. Tried not to get done too quickly. Bunch of us going out drinking tonite.

Day 7-
Long weekend. Won't go into details. Captain upgrades joined us. They seem cool. We're going out to Applebees tonight.
PS, 1:55 on my breath.

Day 8-
Woke up 820, made the shuttle. Systems. Got sim schedule. 2200-0200 sim slot.

Day 11-
Haven't written in awhile. Went down to the workout room and weighed myself. Not good. Did 5 minutes on the treadmill and got tired. McDonalds must be weighing me down. My birthday is tomorrow. Oh yeah, systems test tomorrow.

Day 12-
Passed systems. CPT next. Going out drinking tonight.

Day 13-
CPT is so boring. Got to remember to turn my cell phone off at the bar because the old lady keeps trying to get a hold of me.

Day 14-
Same as Day 13.

Day 15-
Fitted for uniforms. Gone from a size 32 to a size 36 in 2 weeks. Got a cool sweater with epulets, though.

too be continued...

Comair Training Day 1

Wasn't too bad if you filled out the paper work ahead of time...Took all day though could have been done much better but gives you a great opportunity to get to know the rest of the class.
