Comair 5191...

What makes the recording even more scary imo is the casual conversation they have prior to the accident. One moment they are having a normal convo on what is supposed to be a routine flight and the next moment this happens.:(

Imagine the media frenzy if the two pilots were tinkering with their iPods.

That is weird, just another day on the job and then BAM!!!!

That's about how it happens though.

Al Haynes was probably just looking outside at the circular irrigation over 'fly over' country then "POP!"

I thought it was, well, surreal, the way the whole transcript played like any number of normal flights I have done, and how the actual accident was only a few lines and a couple of words. Really puts into perspective of how quickly something can go south.

Yup, the discussion at the beginning of the recording. Discussing captain promotions, ex-patriot flyers in UAE. Very surreal. Even the FO's discussion (or was it the captain's?) in regards to his wife coming down to lexington for the night?

Just sad.

I hear you. It would have been crazy. I heard one outlet last night that was in a frenzy because they talked about "non-essential" things (family, workk, etc...) when it wasn't allowed.

If there would have been mention of #### I dropped my ipod, they would have flipped.

ALong these lines, I am assuming druing a critical phase of flight, the only words should be, "....v1, v2, flaps, power, etc......" and the like????

Accidents are like that - another 500 ft. on the runway, or perhaps a normal as opposed to flex takeoff (I don't know what they did), but one small change and they'd have been passing 1500 ft. on their way to ATL going "what the f*!k did we just do".

To me, in some ways, thats the tragedy, it takes just one small thing and it doesn't happen (true of most accidents).

Made me think when I read the part about the family staying the night with the Captain and the kids being sick. I love to have my family visit when I am on the road, but sometimes it just isn't prudent. Last week, the wife and son came to visit at my hotel, a 45 min drive from home. Since I had a 0415 wakeup, I sent them packing at around 8pm. I need to get some decent sleep, or it's not worth it. Too sad...

Is there any reported word on the FO that was in the hospital? I couldn't find anything about his current condition, but I did read something that I hadn't before. He flew with Gulfstream early in his commercial career.

After reading that transcript, it seemed like the FO was a little out of whack that morning from lack of sleep or fatigue in general.

He's gone back home. He was a Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center I believe, but he left here a month or so ago I think.

Anybody wanna tell me what a line up check is? I was reading the transcript and didn't follow what that meant. It was right before setting takeoff power and rolling.

wouldn't a line up check include making sure your heading matches the runway heading in the FMS/the runway your cleared to T/O from?
