Eagle Desperate

If they turndown flowback then they lose their seniority number at Eagle and become FO's at Eagle instead of American. I am sure they will all take it.

I like AE but the only thing I wouldn't want to get hired for is the fact that I have no clue where i'm going... I mean not everyone is fresh out of school single here... I expect to be married in a couple years and my wife will also have to find a job, relocate etc. fortunetly she doesn't mind she said since I will have a steady/guarenteed job and she can go visit family members and all alot because of the discounts she will get lol

but people just dont like to be told where they will be living for the next x years... they have other options (other airliners) they can go with that will tel them atleast... AE is not the only one hiring ya know...

Eagle had no new hires from September 2001 to Jan 2004. That time period is filled with about 800 or so flowbacks from American.
Exactly. And how many Eagle pilots were put out on the street to make room for those American pilots?

I do not know the answer to that. If Eagle did furlough I know for a fact they were not the only ones during that time period. My point is that the long upgrade time is going to make a giant leap forward in the near future.

Before I was hired by Eagle...when I was just getting started in 2002.... I met a furloughed Eagle pilot. I believe a couple hundred were temporarily furloughed but they were recalled fairly fast (on the grand scale of things).

Can't quote you an exact number though. I know Eagle has a grand total of zero on the street now.

An Eagle pilot cannot be furloughed to make way for an American flowback. American flowbacks can only occupy NEW captain seats. The few people who were furloughed wound up on the street after 9/11 and before Eagle had a growth spurt in 2002.

The number of flowbacks is closer to 400 than 800. The first class of AA recalls started on Jan 3rd. They called 100 guys to get the first 10. Expected 40 per month in the near future, with flowbacks either accepting recall or being forced into the right seat at Eagle FO pay. That basically means all flowbacks WILL accept.

Just an FYI, approximately 70% of Eagle guys at ORD are commuters, and at least 80% in SJU are also. All Eagle bases with the exception of SJU are remarkably easy commutes from most places. Think about how hard it might be to get from wherever you are to ORD, DFW, LGA, etc... SJU is for almost everyone, nothing but a two leg commute. Suck it up for a year. I know everyone complains about commuting, but I'm willing to bet at least 95% of all airline pilots working today have commuted at one time in their lives. The commuter clause in the Eagle contract applies to newhires also. Most lines in all the bases are very commuter friendly.

Anyone who wants off the rock after their 1 year seat lock is up gets a jet FO class very quickly. I never went to the rock, but the guys who come off it up to ORD lately seem to feel like they just got off a year's paid vacation traveling around the Carribean...

Just thought I'd try to infuse some facts back into this thread...

The word we got today inside the training dept is that the new hire class next week has 30 people in it.

Eagle has been an interesting thought process for me; of course I am talking as someone with 0 ratings looking WAY down the road right now.

However, I will be doing my training at ATP in GKY, and now more than likely, moveing there as well. Eagle would make it easy to live in base if I could get that assignment. And, above all else, Eagle is a good company to work for from what I can see.

I think there is more to it than just the concern of getting plopped in a bum location for a year min, and alot have already hit on it:

1) Even the hopes of the best case scenario,a miraculous drop from 7 to 4 years for left seat upgrade, is more than the industry average right now; quite a bit more than the really low ones that are at around 2 years. That scares me I guess.

2) The notion that you could again be displaced by flowbacks should the industry go south is also a bit scary. That is countered a LITTLE by the notion that you get preferential treament when moving up to the big boys.

3) I have always wondered how long I would be able to handle the many short hoppers. Getting stuck doing Killeen to Dallas day in and out would suck! The kind of flying a company like XJet does is much more appetizing; travelling longer distances, seeing more places, less legs per day.

I dunno, it seems to me we are not to the pinnacle of the hiring boom yet. Less and less individuals are getting into the career. Something is gonna have to give and my guess is that the regionals are going to have to make things more appetizing.

If you really want your eyes to water, check out the Colgan IAH flying.

LOL. No offense Seggy, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

Do you guys want to guess how many times I have done ALB-BOS or ALB-LGA in the last year?

To be honest with you it never get boring. I learn something new everyday!

Well thats good to hear Seg. I can only speculate on how I would feel at this point anyway, so other perspectives help, thanks!

Breakdown for the class starting monday:
10 Chicago ERJ
8 New York ERJ
3 LA SAAB
1 Dallas SAAB
4 Miami ATR
4 San Juan ATR

Since yhere are a few here that seem to know alot about AE, I am curious is there anyone that has worked for Eagle anytime between 1990 to about 2000?

I used to work there, is therer another board where there are more Eagle pilots?

For the benefit of the industry as a whole... I'm wishing the best for Eagle!

Their drop from 7 year upgrades to 4 year upgrades may look good when today's 2 year upgrades at XYZ airlines increase to 5 years over the same period...

Regardless... they are one of the "good guys". Good contract, good QOL, etc. I thought the same as Loadmaster since I live in DFW... but... they weren't hiring at the time I was applying a few years ago.
