SKW pay proposal

I voted no. For many reasons I will go into later. Just read XJT just got a contract extension with something like 5% plus COLA. Rock on I say! Hopefully we can hold out for something more along these lines.

It's a psudeo-union. I.E. they tell the pilots they get to vote to make them feel like they actually have a say in what they get paid. This "proposal" could pass with a 100% yes vote and the company could still not do anything.

Ah. . . sounds pretty silly to me. It's the company trying to be nice, without really being nice.

So, being non-union, what happens when the proposal comes back and is voted down? The company, I guess, an say "Oh well, then you get nothing." Granted, if they do that, it's a fast track to having ALPA on property......

Yes, we at XJT just approved a contract extention to renegotiate in 2010. Rates increase at approximately 5.7% per year in linear fashion. About a 2.7% contractual raise per year, with about a 3.0% longevity raise per year. Five cent raises year over year on per diem. We are at $1.65 an hour now, up to $1.80 an hour in 2009.

My opinion doesn't matter much here, but I personally feel that those rates being offered by management are a slap in the face.

It was already voted on, and the majority voted YES (56%). GaTechKid's post was kinda confusing they way he wrote it.

It's great XJT just got a better contract; AWAC had THE industry leading regional contract the day it was signed (9/11/01). 3 months later they were talking concessions. In 2003 the concessionary contract was approved, with ~20% cuts.

IOW, don't get too big of a head, IMO.

Congrats, I am truly happy for you guys. I cannot comprehend our pilot group's approval of this offer. It IS time for ALPA to come on over. I know ALPA isn't magical, but we need some REAL leverage and hopefully some unity one of these days.

Big head? How? I was just stating the facts of our contract extension since it was mentioned a few posts above as a comparison. I did state my opinion of SkyWest's proposal, but that is stand-alone, without comparison to the contract we have at XJT.

Matt, I think he mighta thought the rates you were talking about being a slap in the face were from XJT management. I read it that way at first, said "Wha?" and re-read it and got what you meant.

I'm sure the major issue that will push many over the fence is the fact that in a full decade SKW pilots will only have recieved 1% in order to offset the increased cost of living. I think the ALPA drive will be successful this time around, and at the very least this proposal provides more money for larger equipment while the first contract is negotiated.

It wasn't directed at you - hence no quote.

Wow....Very suprised it was a "YES" vote.

I'm starting to believe that it's futile to hope for better things in this industry. Even when a company is making big bucks, expanding, they offer and the pilots accept what adds up to mediocre agreement.

Sorry to the guys on the board here who were on the "no" side. I feel for ya'

That was sorta my point - in my usual poor way of expressing what I was thinking though :D. It's really, really frustrating. You get a nice raise, then something happens soon after that takes that away. Ugh.

This isn't a tentative agreement. This is a pay raise with a vote that attempts to keep unions at bay. If we voted no then this is what would have happened. Either 1) the union gets voted in and we fly the -700/900 for 50 seat compensation during the 2-4 years it takes to negotiate a contract, or 2) the union doesn't get voted in and managment refuses to talk about pay for ANOTHER X years.
