I don't suck up... what to do

The fact that they don't fly with people (passengers) does not mean that they don't deal with people.

Sometimes they deal with people who are sleep-deprived and fatigued, and under a myriad of other stressors. Scheduling, security, Flight Ops, dispatchers, bus drivers, ramp agents, loaders, handlers, Dangerous Good Specialists, mechanics, fuelers, tug drivers, duty officers, ramp contol, ATC, cab drivers, bellmen, and hotel front desk personnel, all trying to do the best they can on the wrong side of the clock. The resulting cocktail of interpersonal relationships is seldom a walk in the park that would be suited for a person who admittedly doesn't deal well with people.

Hey chief let it go. I think Jfleisher knows just a little about cargo flying.

Well I'm sorry for coming across that way. I don't intend to. I guess I'll try to not defend anyone or include any emotion in my posts. Guess I haven't earned that right yet.

oh ok.. na i know mike personally and he didnt mean to come across that way.

I know what you mean about flightinfo though, I barely even visit that place anymore.

In the last three days:

11/4 - Hey chief let it go. I think Jfleisher knows just a little about cargo flying.

11/3 - Hmmm is tempting to put you down for your lack of common decency but I'll just let it go and be comfortable that I'll probably never have to share the skies with the likes of someone of your character or lack there of.

11/3 - Wow nice opinion.
I'm sure those who knew those two pilots would love to hear an armchair pilot call them stupid.
Hope you never make a mistake in your aviation career. I'm sure you won't because you know everything.
They should teach you right after the four fundamentals of flight that aviation is a small world.

Just seems kind of abrasive!!

Gomntwins. If you made a mistake at this thread, it was overly exposing yourself to ridicule. This thread was going great until a couple potshots from the peanut gallery that ruined it. You got way thicker skin than me. I could delete a few things to fix it all but I'd be accused of being an overly active moderater.

It's sad the direction this site is taking...

I think its because everyone is so dang hasty. Get it right the first time or else you get your brains beat in.

I still love this site. :nana2:

DE727... thanks! All I wanted was some help finding a place or having a goal that suited me. Apparantly I worded it wrong because now I'm a spoiled, arrogant, daddy's boy who hates people and shouldn't get married. Some of the comments on here from some were made solely to be mean and hurtful... how do personal attacks help anybody? It's people like that I don't like to be around. I hate how quick people are to pull the character card on this website and jump to conclusions. Life's not cut and dry. Been thinking about it... I think I'll probably give up on this site. I've noticed it changing... I didn't think it was this bad... but apparantly I was wrong.

Exactely, I hate how this happens on peoples threads. People who want to be successful end up pissed off at the end of the day because of some stupid comment about themselves, like you said the character card comes out. I dont like that at all after realizing I've played that game before and when it happens to me, I really get upset. Just don't forget, its the internet. Everyone needs to sort through the BS and seek the advice of those who want to help and not bash someones lifestyle or choices. Good luck with your discision of where to go with your career.

No I was just misunderstood. Im smart enough to know they dont fly as self employed pilots in single pilot jumbo jets. I was merely suggesting the idea since they dont fly people.

:)

How much do pilots of majors actually deal with the travelling public these days? With the current security, it seems that it's not a whole lot.

If you are not happy with the direction of the site, as a moderator, is it not your job to control it? I have ignored this thread for the most part, read it, decided not to respond at all until today. I agree that there was some abrasiveness, although, given the tone of the initial post, that should be no surprise to anyone, and that has been capped by the last response from the initial poster. If a person has this much trouble with a thread on the internet, it does raise flags to me about how they would perform in a large organization. While it is true that there is a certain degree of autonomy on the line, that is a lot more true for Captains than other crew positions, and not true in the training environment at all. I would have concerns about how this individual would be able to handle flying with a Captain that is a micro-manager (and ALL the airlines have them!).

That said, the reason for this post is just to say that this site remains friendly based on the control of the moderators, and if it starts moving downhill, then the moderators need to control that. Just like any other organization or entity, entropy will occur if humans do not actively stop and/or reverse the process!

I guess the question I'm posing is not "where's the perfect fit for me?" but more like... "what the closest I can get?"

Well, you're making progress. There ain't no such thing as a perfect job. Period. Everyone wakes up some mornings and says why the bleep am I doing this, I so don't want to go to work. It doesn't matter if you're the guy in the mailroom or the CEO of the company, it's part of the gig.

The way I see it, we all have to eat a poop sandwich. Always have, always will.

The question is if there is enough bread to cover up the taste of the poop.

I don't see your attitude as bad at all. I see it as realistic. You don't like doing what da man tells you, you don't like dealing with corporate BS. There's nothing wrong with that.

That's akin to saying your the police dept. so you should curb all crime. It's easier said than done on a PUBLIC site.

Depends a lot on public support of what the public wants, and how much discretion is given to the department. It can be done for the most part, Singapore, for example!

Seagull, unfortunately there is a tough balance, and can turn into a huge mess. The people who cause the problems in the thread seem to gain enjoyment out of winding up the moderators.

I think it depends on how "tough" you want to be. I would venture that Doug would be the one to make the call in a thread like this.

Actually, to me, it was gomn's last post that made me consider that he might have a real issue that would cause him problems at an airline. His first couple posts could be interpreted more than one way, which is partly why I decided not to respond at all at that stage. His last one sounds like a "problem child" attitude, and, and the very least, would make me hesitant to take a chance if I were the one making the hiring call.

Can you see why I would get that from that particular post? Could it be that he doesn't express himself well? Maybe, but it also seems he is unaware of how he is coming across and is defensive about it, rather than taking critique, which is another concern.
