Good Morning folks! Sorry it took so long to update, my PC of 4 yrs bit the dust (fried mother board) just 30 minutes after I got it all hooked up and running. Well my wife and I made it to Florida 2 weeks ago tomorrow. We've since settled in an apartment, I've enrolled in the school I'll be flying with and, I intend to start around the first week of October.

The weather here is as you might have guessed, great! We're taking a couple of weeks off to do some sight seeing, and relax before diving back into the rat race. She's expecting to interview for a surgical position next week and I am really looking foward to getting started. The move itself really wasn't that bad. The worst part was loading the 26 foot truck that took me 2 days with help from family. We gave away or sold just about everything I didn't think we could use. ie fridge, washer dryer, 3 beds worth of furiniture etc. Any way the best 500 bucks I spent was hiring a moving company to send 2 guys out to help me unload the truck in florida as we know no one here. It's just the 2 of us so they REALLY earned thier money!

Over all our experience in Florida has been good. We've met some really great people and those that I think don't realize what a great place they live in. It's like anything else I guess, you come to take for granted, what you see everyday. It was true for me when I was growing up in Hawaii (unfortunately). Driving here is a new experience in attitude let me tell you! I think some of you who are here now or have been here know what I mean!

The beaches are great! I'm gonna try to teach the wife how to boogie board once I figure out how to get her over her fear of sharks! LOL

Well thats all I've got for now, more to follow. Take care and best of luck to all who are taking the leap!

Not on the Tampa side, July-September is storm season - dang near impossible to get up unless you go at 7am. I've lived here for two years now and the place reminds me a lot of SoCal - lots of douchebags who are obsessed with image. Could be worse, though. I live in St. Pete which is really pretty.

You should check out flightinfo.com. I think you would like it.

you ever been to socal? dont talk about things you have no idea about!

I've been planning to move to the St Pete area. Anyone have an opinion on the best flight school? I've checked out a few and I think I've narrowed it down but any input would be helpful!

If you're moving to Florida, I think St. Pete is the best place to be. Just be aware that the housing market is crazy overpriced (just bought a house about 9 months ago). It's a really pretty town with great culture and dining. The beach is always nearby which is great. If you're ever in town, let me know and I'll show you around.

I finished my PPL at CAMS at KPIE - I think it's a great place. The rates are competitive (although they've gone up recently) and the instructors are top notch. Lots of older, professional instructors with great experience. The best part is that the flight school is actually secondary to the mechanic school - as a result, I've never been concerned with the safety of the aircraft I've flown there.

Like I said, great place - better than living in Tampa in my opinion. Just stay away from Clearwater where a two mile drive to the grocery store can easily turn into 45-minutes of sitting in traffic!

I'm down in Palm Beach. I've lived and trained here. The weather is good a majority of the time. Plus you cannot beat the view from the air (exp maybe a mountain range)

"Welcome to Florida...now go home!" : A popular local saying when too many tourists show up in the winter.
I was born and raised down here in miami. I currently live in Fort Lauderdale which I really love... (no crazy Cubans to block the roads on some stupid protest) I have lived in Las Vegas (1 year) and Raleigh North Carolina (1 year) and I just keep ending up back here. Asside from the insane drivers it really is great down here.
