Going back to Comair

Well I've had enough of Mesa for a lifetime. I just got the call today for the job offer in CVG. Now I can actually afford to buy a house and some land. Now I can get paid salery. I'll be doing the same job, just a different airline. I start on the 9th, so now I've got to scramble to get things in motion. Does anyone know of a good FBO to train at in CVG?

Wow...so quick and I think that I only saw you once since you moved here! Good luck Howard!

Yowza.

Must be "real fun" at YV?

Comair is probably better than Mesa.

If I remember right you are an A&P.

CMR has shrunk and lost about 20% of its flying. Delta has been slowly reducing our CVG flying and giving it to CHQ mostly and ASA. JFK has grown for us in the past 2 years. I dont see CMR growing at all (even with the cuts) in the short term, I will have to check my crystal ball for the long term outlook, but I do see CMR around for a while, but most likely sold off. It is a good thing Butrell is gone, he was nothing but trouble for the employees. Bornhurst has been with CMR for a long time, and really cares about the company. His "complete utter devistation" remarks was truely him after the 191 crash.

Welcome to the team.

Actually I'm a rehire. Actually both the other applicant picked and myself are returning Comair employees. I was treated a lot better at CMR than at YV. Dob't get em wrong I met some great individuals, but about 95% of employees need people skills. We're ready to drop the gear and put in the gear pins i.e. settle down for a while. PHX is almost as bad as California as far as housing prices go and I don't want to live out in the boonies to get good housing prices.

And Delta gave "CHQ's" Flying to Mesa (Freedom). CHQ hasnt added any...so you see it all returns to mesa! :)

Most of CHQs flying went from MCO to CVG, replacing CMR, where I am a lot more familiar with the operations. (both CMR and CVG wise) All of concourse A is CHQ now, even ASA is over in C. Both CMR and CHQ got the screws in MCO with Freedom, and their JFK dash 8 opperation is horrendus. Freedumb even has quite a sizeable opperation in ATL.

Wow when I worked the CVG ramp for DL as a ramp agent in 98-2002 concourse A was a ghost town as all or most DL flights were out of the new B concourse.

Concourse C was all CMR flights. What a difference a couple of years make!

The options are pretty limited unfortunatley. Shoot me a pm with your email address and I'll send you a rundown of all of the various FBO's if you'r einterested.

Jason

I have heard good things (at least when I lived their) about the flight schools at Lunken. Also heard that the FBO in Blue Ash was pretty decent!

Just stay away from KI69!!!

I got my multi at the (then) Schmidt Aviation in Blue Ash. The guy who runs it now was the chief pilot back then, and now it's called Blue Ash Aviation.

Good place, and it at least was cheap. Aztec with known ice and radar for $179/hr. They also had 172's, 182, an rg, and some diamonds from what I recall. That was 4-5 years ago, however.

I did my first leg to CVG in 1996. I remember thinking:

"Where the hell is taxiway 'dixie', what the hell is a mad dog and why the hell do I have to call Comair ramp!?"

A former flight instructor here at MTSU just got hired at Comair. He waited a while until they called him for an interview.

Thats good to hear, for a while they wern't hiring pilots, and cancelling 10% of their operation on the last day of the month when ALL of the reserves had timed out. Not sure if CMR is the best place to be now but all the best to him.

Freedom Dash 8 operation in JFK is a joke! Mesa leased the oldest Dash 8s in the world. N810LR is Dash8-100 S/N 003. If anyone knows about how production works the first two or three of the production line are test birds. Material support is a nightmare beyond comapare. I thought when I was in the Navy and trying to upkeep and fly in over 30 year old helos that would be the hardest job ever, but this takes the cake. Delta has to be out of their minds! It's going to bite them and Mesa in the a$$.
