Comair Accident Audio (911 calls)

Re: Comair Accident Audio

Do you guys have Real Player? I think I noticed it was a .ram file which requires Real or another 3rd party player that supports that format.

I see that it's an mp3 file on the link; however, when I click on the link, it downloads as a .ram file. What the heck is a .ram file????

Dough, you've got a Mac as well. Does the link work for you? The file tries to open in GO Live for me and that ain't workin'.

Ehh, no interest! I'm not a tragedy voyeur.

Car chase on TV, I'll change the channel. When the local news has the "Compelling audio from a home invasion, after the news", I'll change it too. My life has enough real-life drama, baked right in.

Yep, I now notice that the file is .ram directly from the website. Webmaster or whatever must have made a mistake. As I said before, if you have Real Player or anything that can handle .ram it should work fine.

The clip is like 1.25 hours long though, I didn't make it all the way through before losing interest.

Rgr........too long for me too.

I hear ya, Doug. Didn't mean to suggest you were into tragedies....just thought you checked out everything that was posted, being the super-webmaster that you are.

Yeah that was interesting Alphaone for sure....very long though ! It would be more interesting if you could get ahold of the radio traffic from their fireground ( scene communications ) and mutual aid frequencies. Problem is those usually arent on tape, they are only on scene through portable radios.

Actually, if the airport has a functional dispatching PSAP (public safety answering point) then the radio communications ARE logged to tape - or rather, a hard drive. If they have mutual aid freqs with the local munis, then those communications are ALSO recorded as well.

Im not sure if we are talkin about the same thing Killbilly.....I'm talking about the portable fire radios on scene between fire crews and incident command
( fireground frequencies ). Maybe it's different there, but here the main fire dispatch channel is on tape, but once we get to a large scene and switch frequencies, it's no longer recorded...unless we stay on the fire dispatch channel. For a large incident though, we wouldnt in order to keep the dispatch frequency clear for other calls. It might be different there though, maybe you know something I dont !!

It does vary from place to place, and you would know your setup better than I. What I've seen in most places is that if anyone is on the same freq as the muni, it gets recorded by the local PSAP. If you're switching freqs to something concentrated "locally" then it would make sense for it not to be recorded. Also depends on whether or not you're on trunked radio systems or something else.

For what it's worth, I was under the impression that it was mandatory for ALL radio traffic to be recorded, so I learned something here.

Now you've got me wondering Billy !! Lets just say....I hope not lol. I asked around and some guys say it depends on how close we are to the actual dispatch center...if the transmission hits the repeater then yeah they can catch that....a few others said no not at all, and a few said that it is all recorded. I'm gonna have to find out from dispatch the truth, I'll let ya know !
