What one year at a regional will get you

None taken- I was 24, lived at home, and had relatively no debt. It's sad man. Really really sad. But as Doug put it, if you don't like something, don't run away from it, change it.

"So I guess I fall in the range of guys who just bitch and complain now"

Welcome to the club. You'll soon have many enemies at JC...

Dude, completely out of context. This shouldnt be a profession that sucks people in with cool uniforms, nice glass cockpits, and hot flight attendants. Wheelsup gave a great informational insight to how the profession is and unfortunately there isnt a ton of this kind of info readily available for anyone considering a pro pilot career.

Aviation shouldnt mislead people. Its to damn bad that it takes some folks 10s of thousands in training, CFIing, and being a new FO to learn they cant support their family on the dirt wages. I think WU gave a great, REALISTIC view of what to expect and got ripped for it. Total BS.

Great write up wheels. Sorry you got slammed by "some people" that have the sheets over their head.

Wow, did you not read what I said? I said I MISUNDERSTOOD..Did you just feel the need to be one of the voices of dissent?

From previous posts, I'm thinking this is also pretty typical for expressjet and skywest (CRJ) guys. One fellow on here reported making $3300 take home per month at expressjet as a second year FO.

Right on, but those guys who are able to make $45,000 by crediting 100+ hours consistently each month are usually the ones who got on with that regional before the recent hiring booms and now have great seniority. That is what happened to Alchemy. I guess I believe almost all of the expansion at the regional level is over and most guys getting hired now won't rise in seniority as quickly thereby getting higher pay with fantastic lines.

What size loan gives you guys a 900 monthly payment? That's outrageous.

surreal1221 - how much did your training cost? did you need to take a loan out for it? my loan hasn't kicked in yet, but it should be around that amount.

Because he was talking about how his other job payed better...Thats how I took it. People on this site usually bitch and moan about their job/pay, so why not assume he was doing the same.

I made the same amount of money for having double the time off which translates into "working" only half the year. I had a bunch of creature comforts such as a/c and a chime button with diet coke and ice waiting on the other end not to mention WX RADAR!!! (that's for you mtsu). Yeah, I'm bitter...

Next year I'll do almost the same for a 46% hourly payraise. Yep, more bitter.

And to reference the loan posts, $900/month is INSANE on practically any salary. Don't do it. It's not worth it...this is just a job!

One thing I'm actually bitter at though is the continued farming out of mainline flying.

P.S. 'paid'

FlyingNole - you have to realize that for most of us, this is our sole source of income and some may not have 'safety nets'.

It's healthy that professional pilots are complaining about their pay.

That means that when the company says, "WOO HOO! We've got an expansion opportunity to pick up some CRJ-900's but only if we fly them at Saab340 rates WOO HOO!" they'll hopefully say, "That's great, I have bills and stuff it unless you can come back with a professional pay rate."

Fecal matter rolls up AND downhill in this industry.

I think it would be cool if the regional payscale out stripped the mainline pay scale on similar aircraft (say the EMB 175's at republic ir -900's at mesa). Then maybe mainline would consider bringing them back on their cert.

wait, what am I saying. that won't happen. there are too many FO's that can't wait to upgrade to go to a "major". just get your 1000 PIC and you're set!

I love that a lot of those guys don't realize that by taking the low pay/quick upgrade on something that seats about 70-90 seats, that's one less 737/DC-9/717/whatever that mainline flies. Therefore, they'll need a lot more than just the PIC time to move on since they're shooting themselves in the foot...

BTW, rumot has it that in the new PCL propsal, 70 seat rates are in fact HIGHER than 50 seat rates for CA (not sure by how much). Company, I think, is trying to keep it the same pay for FOs, though.
