Amazon Air MIA Runway Excursion

My biggest fear, timing chain guides.

It's a real thing on 30+ year old plastic. Currently considering participating in the BendPak Labor Day sale. Couple low-rise lifts that could easily work in my garage. I'd do the maxjack but I don't like how it is $1000 more expensive than the non-portable counterpart. That thing got way overpriced over the last couple years. I don't think id actually want to deal with taking it down and then re-installing anyways. But the most versatile space would have to be mobile, since the widest highest lift position would be like 1/3 of the way across the garage, between the garage door motor and one of the light fixtures. But that would just be to max lift or potentially my wife's car, which I honestly probably won't ever wrench on more than really basic stuff. I can get any of my cars 3-4 feet off the ground without worrying about that constraint, otherwise. Which is why I'm leaning towards a permanent install. But then that also requires me to get the concrete work done, store the thing for however many months that takes, etc. So maybe I wait another year.

I’m in the land of cheap real estate. Four car garage and we’re still building on.

A buddy of mine dug a Jiffy Lube trench in his garage. Kinda makes sense.

I have also thought about a forward extension of my current 2 car oversize, to become a 4 car. But this is definitely not our forever home, so I quickly dismiss the idea. Would be super nice though

Yeah, that's pretty JV. Reminds me off SWA off the end into the gas station. No boards, no TR's, just along for the ride.
Was that Pasadena where ATC got flamed for asking for an airspeed that couldn’t support a stabilized approach? I think I remember that one. Unable is my favorite profanity.

To the topic of Sretin and 539Restorations, even he recently admitted that he is gonna start including promotions and *thumbnails. It just is what it is. I understand that he needs the revenue, that whole channel has to be wildly expensive. I know how much a 2 post lift is, and he bought like 5, plus most recently a BMW alignment machine, wheel balance machine, tire installer, and the list goes on and on, and oh yeah, whole new shop too. I also know that he is easily sinking 30+k euro into most of these builds. Probably much more on the ones that involve an engine rebuild/block work. Likes don't pay for that, nor do subscriptions alone. There are very few channels that I am receptive to this monetization, but this is one of them. The value of the content is very high.
I wish Sretin would get on patron. He seems like such a good guy, I’d gladly pony up a few bucks a month for him. He deserves a much bigger following.

Yeah I think that was what put them in the situation. Wet runway too, IIRC. It was before my time doing this of course. But either way, they didn't do speed brakes or TR's, or they tried and never verified they hadn't, and just plowed into that gas station.

This makes me wonder how fatiguing the schedule leading up to the accident was, both day of and cumulative total prior. Not using it as an excuse, but those ACMI scheds can have you feeling behind the cart a bit at times. On circadian swap #4, I once put shaving cream on my toothbrush at 3am getting ready for day 15.

I say that because I just looked at the flight tracker history of this tail number. If the crew did start the day in CVG at 2am with the plane, that’s a long three leg WOCL FDP that’s all too common in that part of the industry.

With that being said, it’s part of being a professional. We all get paid to fly planes in less than ideal situations on grueling schedules. So again, not an excuse, just something that needs to be looked at if they were in fact on that plane all day after a 1am check-in

Yeah, I'm sure we will soon know if it was a 13:07 scheduled duty period for the crew or it it was just the aircraft routing. Part of me wishes it was a 13:07 duty period starting at 117 am in CVG. Can you imagine that? Insane and surely would attract some attention to the cargo cutout and part 117 for all. Part of me wishes that nobody should ever have to endure such foolishness.

Maybe, just maybe the cargo carve out nonsense will get looked at. My last trip was

Day 1: 6:55am departure ONT-DFW 4hr sit DFW-OAK 430pm landing
DAY 2: 630am departure OAK-PHL. Land around 2pm ish
Day 3: 12hrs later; 310am departure of of the Philly sort PHL-ALB-SYR
I won’t bore you with the rest. I ended up being sick anyway but I’ve had this plenty of times and write it up or either call out fatigued if I’m at that point.

I remember starting in ONT at 1250am, flying to an outstation to sit for a few hours then flying to Philly to land at 2 something in the afternoon. ONT-PHX-PHL used to go into open time a lot and I always got it as a new hire.

Idk what their schedule looked. Most people I talked to who flew under an Amazon contract said the schedules weren’t bad. But on this side of the house seeing anything fatiguing wouldn’t surprise me.

If the rumors of them trying to go around at some point is true I wonder if they got bit by the go around logic. I’d imagine they were under 5ft RA for a good amount of time. The PF hit the GA paddle and nothing happened. A lot to process in the heat of the moment if it’s something you’re not familiar with.

Bust the TDZ and not having a sense of imminent need of brakes, boards, TR’s? That’s clown sheeet.

Plowing grass and asphalt for 1300 feet beyond a 9k runway, the Space Shuttle did better.

True. Will also point out though that there’s a displaced threshold and the LDA (IIRC) is around 7,9xx ft.

Ask me if I dislike hotels that put a pump bottle of hand soap next to the hand lotion...
