Not a "layover" and per usual, I took no cool pics. But Helsinki food was amazing. Everything we had there was incredible. Side note, I'm not much into sweets, but their fruity deserts were great enough for even me to enjoy. Reindeer, incredible fish, it was all awesome. A lot of people told me that it's a really expensive city, but quite honestly, I found that not to be the case. If you factor in not tipping, that pretty much erases the EU to USD disadvantage, and then it is basically just like any other meal I might buy up in the greater Seattle/Whidbey/Puget Sound area. But like 10x better. I actually thought Finland was a bargain.

Nice! Never been but on the agenda for sometime in the near future.

Reindeer similar in taste to deer? What’s the recommended doneness?

Yeah, I didn't really notice a huge difference. Pretty much same doneness as well, based on cut of course. The traditional way is "sautéed" which I think is maybe a bit lost in translation. It's really good, basically what I'd call "braised" in beer and a bunch of other stuff. My favorite was the backstrap which I think they called "fillet" (yeah, I guess we'd call it that too in some places), served with a classic bordelaise sauce. But that was at more of an upscale, less-traditional place.

Probably not how you want reindeer, but had reindeer on my pizza today at Moose’s Tooth in Anchorage.

Not in Tokyo but got my yakiniku fix in Hong Kong instead since they poofed my NRT layover to oblivion. Not bad for HK$250. Way cheaper in HK compared to Tokyo.
