Air Force One Point One

^ All fair (since I'm the self-appointed Ref, hah, although I'm not sure I've seen anything I would call "racist", but maybe I haven't seen everything he's posted...I am very busy dodging work). I have a lot of the same reactions as most everyone else to a lot of the things he posts, in any case. I just think it's worth a sit-n-think about just how cloistered we want to become, esp. when someone has actual aviation knowledge to contribute. You get the idea.

I’m not ok with spending $400M of taxpayer money for three years of use for a plane that will become Trump’s private jet. Are you?
The airplane does not belong to Trump, it was given to US government, not orange man bad. Why do you perpetuate this myth? I'm not saying Trump is brilliant but even he knows a 747 is a horrible choice as a personal transportation appliance. But you're convinced he's going to leave office and use it to travel the world. He's 80 years old, owning a private 747 would likely bankrupt his entire business. Not to mention he already owns a 757, in your dumb head he'd fly around in the 747 vindictively just to own the libs, I hope you can take a step back and realize how retarded the reasoning you've succumbed to actually is. Click bait is not real life.

I mean uhm so is a 757? Does he really strike you as the kind of guy who is making rational decisions about how to most efficiently travel?
I've worked on a private 727, and no it wasn't Epsteins. I will not begrudge anyone who toots around in their private 757. Long legs and short fields are just another Tuesday. I'm never going to own a private jet but given a choice between a 737 or a 757 I'll take the 757 everytime.

Where is the airplane going after his term?

Where is the airplane going after his term?
Is this supposed to be a loaded question? You're all convinced you know, let the rest of the world in on your prognosis doctor. If that airplane ends up being reliable for executive transport you're going to have to literally sue to get the USAF to let it go. But pragmatism has no place in the minds of the brainwashed. I suspect the airplane will retire eventually, the Reagan library has a 707 because it had been retired from service. A newish 747 will be kept in service for as long as it's not falling apart. Look at how the Navy and the USAF keep extending the projected retirement of their front line fighters. No one is building new airplanes except China and it's our own fault for making it so difficult to innovate.

I will callout this thread is in General, since its a discussion about aviation. Please help re-form our big circlejerk behind the Lavatory curtain, away from the non-account-havers.

l I think the Qatari 74-8 is the most shameless and open sort of graft imaginable (until Trump comes up with something even more baldly (if you'll pardon the expression) unethical).
It’s just so strange and inappropriate, but too transparent to feel like bribery.

I think Trump doesn’t have the manners and self-control to refuse an inappropriate gift.

Big picture, if we are going to be critical of countries peddling for interest, Qatar if far from being the worst offender.,

Funding a humanitarian effort would have had better optics if MAGA folks cared about that kinda stuff.

The answer to the question is $400M to retrofit that airplane so it can operate as AF1, but I'm sure you knew that. What's the annual budget to maintain the two VC-25As?

What you're saying is that you know what he is doing is wrong, but it is cheaper than the doing the right thing, so why bother... Furthermore, it means his grift of getting a VC-25 (whatever suffix) from the Qataris is acceptable.

If this isn't egregious enough to warrant action, what is? Where do you draw the line?

Qatar has turned into our most important strategic ally in the ME. We didn’t have to bribe our way into Qatar and they pay retail for all their toys.

I think accepting that kinda gift is inappropriate but can’t see a quid pro quo at this point.

Its been the plan from the start, over a year ago when this all started. Bridge to the new fleet with this airplane going to the trump library.

Because as part of Qatars gift was the stipulation that it reverts to the Trump museum after his term.

I'm not disturbed by AF1 or it's costs.

I am highly concerned with the amount of money we have spent on this "kinda AF1" that the US gets to use only until inauguration day 2029 when it will most likely deliver Trump to Florida if he is still alive and then become his personal airplane.

My question is how much have taxpayers spent on what amounts to a 2-year lease on a sorta AF1?

Well, it’s the Christian Nationalists and the bigot class that basically gave “Orange” carte blanche because man swimming in female swim meet BAD. Must end the world over person peeing in the wrong terr’lit.

“I don’t watch Fox News.”

Continues to push every single Fox News talking point. It’s amazing the way propaganda spreads.

As predicted.

“I don’t have social media”
“I don’t watch Fox”
“I didn’t say I voted for him”/“SHE HAD A CACKLE! I had to!”

Everyone ‘gets religion’ after the invoices for voting stupid begin to arrive.

Air Force One thread. Make me a mod.

Operational use of this airplane by the Executive brings into question the need for all the extravagance of a traditional AF1. Al Haig figured out how to make government continuity work. Sort of.
