… hollowed out their military and they’re a paper tiger that makes Russia look like an organized, modern army.
For decades, the Iranian military (Islamic Republican Armies) consisted of moderates, biding time for an opportune moment to seize power. For decades, we had direct and cordial communications with the Iranian military.
In the past decade, the regime has shifted resources to the Revolutionary Guard Armies, diminishing the possibility of moderate military leaders seizing power.
We missed a window of opportunity that could have resulted in a benevolent coup.
I’m hoping we haven’t continued our tradition of creating failed states. Failed states make genocides and civil wars possible.
This is a real issue moving forward. There's apparently two separate militaries there these days, the old school moderate military that we used to sell F-14s to and the revolutionary army loyal to the Muslims, the people were disarmed a long time ago. So who will fill the vacuum? It won't be the people, they've got numbers but no tools. Maybe the moderate military steps up? Or the IRGC just continues to oppress. I have no answers only questions, but I also have a tin foil hat somewhere in my closet that's telling me this whole thing wouldn't have happened without at least a strong idea regarding who is going to fill the vacuum that's been created. For decades, the Iranian military (Islamic Republican Armies) consisted of moderates, biding time for an opportune moment to seize power. I think if Iran had any remaining capability and desire to strike effectively outside the country we’d have seen it by now. Whether because their capabilities are degraded from corruption, incompetence, and sanctions or because as you say those with the real power are holding back to see what happens who knows. For decades, the Iranian military (Islamic Republican Armies) consisted of moderates, biding time for an opportune moment to seize power. Not to mention the last time the Iranian navy tried to touch one of Americas boats it was reduced to ashes in about 8 hours, this was decades ago and the current tech is different. Maybe they'll try to close the strait, it's a big game of FAFO.

Not really weird… it’s just that you!Sounds like Iran was hardly a threat. And last June we were told their nuclear ambitions were and I quote, “obliterated.”
Now only to start yet another war in the ME just 8 months after that “obliteration.”
Because, according to Trump, Iran was “imminent” in reaching nuclear capability that could strike the United States.
Weird.

Iran's power isn't direct confrontation. They can't compete against an F-35, their strength instead (I would think) lies in guerilla state sponsored terrorist tactics, and instilling fear, mass destruction and mass causalities.I think if Iran had any remaining capability and desire to strike effectively outside the country we’d have seen it by now. The police have arrived to answer a 911 call, of domestic violence. Prior to the 911 call, the abusive husband was beating his wife • bloody and unconscious. Now the police liberators have arrived to take the abusive husband to jail. But now the wife is beating on the police and obstructing them from doing their job. Saying, "no don't take him away, I love him. He's an abuser, but he's my abuser. I don't want a foreign entity to come in and handle the situation, and arrest my husband."
This situation is playing out now, from what I just read. All those Iranian protesters, that were protesting their government, are now condemning the attack on their country by the US and Israel...
Probably, but Stevie Wonder could have seen where this buildup would lead and yet the worst they’ve mustered is a few scattershot missile launches. Not as if they didn’t have time to get assets in position. Just more evidence that they were practically no security threat to the US and the stupidity of getting involved.Iran's power isn't direct confrontation. Hell, during Iran-Contra, we had direct back channel dealings with Iran to sell and deliver second had weapons, ammunition, vehicles, aircraft parts and more; and even with Israel helping. All iran had to do was deposit their payment in this one particular bank account.
Bingo.
I don’t think many people feel that the last thing they want is American intervention in their internal affairs. Especially as a country where we’re shooting our own people in the streets, a justice system dependent on the color of your skin and wealth, and restricting freedoms. Which, again, is hilarious how the administration was thirsty for Scandinavian immigrants but why in the world would a person from a Scandinavian country with a high standard of living, social order, healthcare and very few poor people want to find themselves in some “Ayn Rand on Quaaludes” Texan experiement?

Their nuclear program was slowed down significantly, the entire program wasn't obliterated but some of the sites were. The ayatollah was an assahola and the world is better without him. But you're upset. You're so domesticated that any opportunity to claim the victim card is your first reaction, any chance to claim you're an oppressed minority absolutely must be exploited! Negotiations regarding their nuclear weapon progression stalled. I heard a good analogy regarding Iran earlier today, it's as if you have an unruly teen that lives down the street, this kid likes kicking pets and lighting other peoples stuff on fire as a fun past time. One day you find out someone is going to give him a handgun and some ammo. What do you do? You'd call the cops. The cops just showed up, it has nothing to do with religion. You as a peaceful muslim should celebrate the removal of this stain on your religion. I don't adhere to any organized religion but I'd guess my upbringing would lean me more towards Christianity. You want to know what I don't like about it? The Crusades, they went out to either kill non believers or convert them. Sound familiar? Jihad, Muslims are copying Catholics. Defending the current regime in Iran is reprehensible if your basing it solely on your religion or race. You're a paki, you should be championing Pakistans current war against Afghanistan, oh wait. A knowledgeable person might lead with the proposition that civil aircraft shouldn’t operate in war zones where folks have fingers on triggers. But then again, our sophisticated (at the time) Vincennes couldn’t tell a F14 apart from an Airbus A300.
