I have had not one but TWO CAs who have never seen it. And they’re almost proud of it.

There’s a CA at my shop that not many guys like (but I do.) First leg we are flying together, cleared for takeoff, his leg. He says, “you ready?” I said “pitter patter” and he immediately responds “let’s get at ‘er” and we’ve been friendly ever since.

Seriously. The dropping of TV/movie lines is one of my favorite ways to suss out my tribe and when I find a member it just makes the trip better.

I used to fly with a CA back at the regional and we would spend all three days of the trip talking in movie and tv quotes. We had a code when we didn’t understand and would just say Kaiser Söze.

Tangential but worthwhile…

In the old career, I used to work a lot of competitive strategies and it involved a lot of analysis of what the competition was doing. The directive to my team was this:

We will do what the other guys won’t. Find out what that is, and don’t be afraid to shock management. I’ll cover you.

I called it the Keyser Soze strategy.

Ugh half the time I try that I get “hurr durr you couldn’t make that movie today hurr durr woke”

Most of the layovers I am experiencing it is difficult to get out an buy the FO a beer. On my birthday I flew with a hella cool guy that I was hoping I could buy a beer and at least thank him for all the hard work. Nope. We timed out before even arriving at the hotel. I was barely able to get to the gym and sleep. I skipped dinner.

Also since starting to use a Fitbit I can see why a lot of people are too busy to hang out for a beverage or dinner on a layover. I started a day in RNO and went through SEA to TPA. I looked at the fitbit at 7:30 pm local and I had only burned 1200 calories or so. Usually it is around 2200 to 2400 by that time even if I didn't ride bikes and just did an hour at the gym. I had to go to the gym for over an hour to just get my calorie count in a normal range. Then find dinner and be ready for a 0600 van.

There’s an amazing train shop in Paducah, new, used, and antique. Also, lots of books and magazines.

National Quilt Museum is also cool.

I collect trains and quilts.

I think Skywest and Contour serve Paducah.
