New Cessna 150 Owner

Doesn’t this kind of talk cause someone in L’Enfant Plaza to spontaneously crap their pants? (I have no idea.)

Would it be kosher if someone “built” a knob by wrapping a bunch of masking tape around the dimmer switch stem?
Probably not, although TBH for privately operated part 91 you would really have to try to get that kind of attention from a fed.

Agreed. This is the kind of thing that gets flight schools a pretty stern talking to and a slap on the wrist when they are getting an inspection/audit.

I’m not even sure about that. I haven’t been in the GA maintenance world since 3D printers became really mainstream, but owner produced parts have been a thing since forever and for something as simple as a dimmer knob 3D printing seems like a pretty legit process.

But yeah on a personal plane, the chances that anyone would look hard enough to notice and care are minute.

Did someone say 3D printed parts?
I needed a bracket to hold the Dynon knob panel, Com radio head and future autopilot panel. Designed with Tinkercad and printed by an online service:

The installation instruction doesn’t mention what the modules are to be attached to. The bracket (which is merely a spacer) is attached to the aluminum structure which was fabricated IAW AC 43.13.
I’m using my authority as an A&P to install the panels as I see fit and my IA will sign it off. Easy peasy.
