Gotcha, never flew anything with more than 2What? No.

767 at lax, HP turbine let go. Part of it lodged in the tailpipe of the other engine. Was just texting about this with another jcer. Was also a CF6. Ludicrously lucky as it happened during a mx run to diagnose an EGT fluctuation.Totally non-sequitur, and I don't mean to influence the conversation, but I can't help but think of the incident where that 757(?) threw a fan blade on a mx engine run that sliced through the wing box.
Still waiting to hear back from one of my friends at UPS.

Nothing about the MD specifically ATM, but SDF is shut down. Not sure whether they're doing a sort, but they've told all pilots to stay in their hotels, etc.
Looking at the engine in the grass beside the runway while the airplane continued on I’d bet there will be a fleet wide inspection.Any temporary pause in MD-11 ops at UPS due to the unknowns of this accident?

As an airline we’re gonna have our hands full over the next few weeks I’d imagine. I’m pretty numb after watching a friend’s last moment but the only advice I have to offer to my IPA/UPS brothers and sisters is to take time for yourself if you need it. We’re going into peak where we give 110% for weeks on end. Take care of yourselves and recognize when you have nothing left to give.
Good reason to never allow flight deck video for accident investigation. No one, least of all their families, should ever watch their loved ones die, heroically or otherwise. And no matter how locked down it is, you know it would leak.Damn, I was hoping the pilots had a tiny bit of control in their final moments versus being horrified passengers. Gives me a sickening feeling.
I never want to hear the CVR. Heck, don’t want to read the CVR.

There will be some impact but adjustments will be made between rwys 29 and 17L/35RI don't think I saw this posted. 11/29 was expected to reopen at 7am. Given its short length, will that hamper operations of the widebody fleet?
7 dead on the ground so far.![]()
Agreed it’s not for general public consumption, but I believe much can be gained and learned from studying the transcript’s of airline accidents by other airline/professional pilots. I know I learned a lot by studying what others did or didn’t do leading up to an accident.Honestly, we need to go all “Canada” style where there’s not even a transcript of the CVR released. A total of 4 people review it, they write their report, and then the media is locked away forever. 0.0 reason for it to be published.

I don't recall seeing 747s land on 29, but I've seen all the other stuff do it for hours at a time during rushes. Creates ground stops to SDF but the jets get in.I don't think I saw this posted. 11/29 was expected to reopen at 7am. Given its short length, will that hamper operations of the widebody fleet?

I back this. So you can't benefit from airline cvr transcripts just as a non-airline pilot? Strongly disagree.I’ll have to respectfully disagree. That information is valuable for learning and prevention. As well as transparency promotes integrity of all parties involved.
