RJ FO budgeting

I have 3 kids during and a school year, my life is routine for 5/7 days, repetition. School, after school activities, homework, play, dinnner, tuck into bed. That is literally every week.

No, I don’t get to go in the forest on a mountain bike. But I’m okay with that. I still do my own hobbies. Eg, gun range.

You’re doing it again. There’s far more to life than riding bikes that isn’t possible to do on short call. It’s understandable you’re both unaware of that and mentally incapable of understanding what I’m getting at. Keep posting though and digging that hole even deeper.

Thanks for the life reminder. It’s your choice how far you live from the airport.

You don’t have kids, you’d know what the schedule is if you had school aged children.

By this time of the year most of these guys have maxed out their 401k personal contributions. So they will add that in. If like me they have exceeded the limitations for total 401k contributions 70K this year I believe. They continue to get the 16.5% which should be invested in retirement, not considered income to be spent on bills. When I communicated with my union about my hesitations to put this 401K "spill" into a modified pension with only an 8% return, which is less than the rate of currency debasement I was told by a rep: "most of these guys just spend it on a jetski or something."

Beefy puts down his colleagues as putting money to jet skis, yet doesn’t even know his company’s retirement DC % number. It ain’t 16.5%.

And you are delusional if you think the MBCP is going to get you an 8% return. Have you even talked to anyone on the R&I committee?

I take the cash spill and throw it directly into my mortgage principal. My goal is to have my 30 yr mortgage paid off in 3.5 yrs if I can. That is a 6.625% mortgage I save on today, and free up cash at a younger age to invest as I see fit.

Go look up what the proposed MBCP return on investment is percentage wise, and then get back to this thread.

Truth is, he will complain all day long but if it was legal and the company could force him to be on short call reserve for 12 hrs a day, 30 days in a row, Beefy would do it with a smile on his face, knowing his alternative to downgrade himself to FO is not something his persona and ego could tolerate.

C'mon you can't tell me that this episode of the Real Alaska Airline Pilots of LAX/SEA, isn't a good one. Man, I can’t wait for the reunion episode.

Cliffs notes; dude born on a silver platter is tone deaf to the struggles of other people.

Don’t forget they started this thread after being triggered off of something they saw on social media (that claims to not have).

I'm very confused. But watching captains, for the same airline, argue about how to either earn more money or work less and what's the better choice should be pushed to the UPS vs AS thread.

Love it. Born in a third world country and luckily immigrated to this country is now silver platter.

And I watch YouTube for stuff like Oliver’s Last Week Tonight. Or an Air Crash Investigation episode. This somehow came up in the shorts section.

You come from an affluent family of physicians, and have made it known that because of the support they were able to provide you were to achieve what you have. Don’t pretend like you haven’t been bragging about being in the left seat of a legacy before the age of 40 has been a hardship.

Like I said, tone deaf to other people’s true struggles and hardships.

Oh no. Parents parented and now in 2025 it’s a bad thing. How privileged of me. My bad.

Not sure I’ve complained about any hardships here, other than the NYC base closing and subsequent transcon move.

Crediting a 95 hour month will make your big check about $18k net. Very easy to do since reserves don’t get used much. Bid short call (84 hour guarantee) then pick up a two day trip on days off and you’re there.
Big check for fun.

Little check for life.

La palabra del señor.

Who said “parents parented” is a bad thing ?

Oh no, a base closing? You must be the only person in the industry that’s had to face that. How did you pull through? You’re here bragging about playing the system while over in the Spirit thread people are being furloughed and scrambling to get interviews, amongst other turmoil in the industry.

It’s unfortunate what’s happening at Spirit. You don’t need to conflate the two different subjects. It’s not like this was being carried out in the NK thread. That would be lacking taste.
