AA runway incursion at LAX, high-speed abort

AeroLogic crosses runway with AA jet speeding to takeoff at 167 mph. I wonder how close to V2 that may have been.

167mph is roughly 145 knots. So probably not *right at* V2, assuming they were going a distance and the FlightRadar24 data is correct. Certainly fast enough for it to be a brown alert moment and require the ole brake-cooling charts to be consulted, though!

 Yikes! That’s definitely a “we’re done flying for the day” incident. I’m surprised this didn’t happen on the north side.

Is this the flight?

IF so, where was the incursion? At the end H/B17 or at the G intersection?

Saw on ig that LAX streamer dude caught the AA abort on video with ATC. Right away pilots said eff that going back to the gate, gnarly abort.

Tower asked them how long they thought they'd need to cool their brakes... they were pretty quick to say they were just going back to the gate.

They ended up stopping on Bravo short of C8 to wait for a gate, and waited for us to come in via C8 to get to our gate. Even 5 minutes after the event they still had all their lights and strobes on. I'd guesd they were pretty busy with dealing with stuff still.

I thought this was a G intersection incursion. It says the closest point was one mile apart, so that implies the post-abort distance. So we are thinking 7,000 feet away or so before the abort started and they’re already doing 154mph? Taking off would have been far safer, no?

Why would V2 matter?

Just guessing here. The incursion was at the end of the runway, takeoff calculations for a V1 cut would mean being at V2 and 35 ft at the end of the runway.

I think it’s more riskier to have a very high speed RTO at 154mph for someone crossing 7,000 ft down the literal end of the runway. Obviously not an ideal situation, but the risk factors would favor continuing a takeoff as a safer action, given their speed and distance remaining to the aircraft. Even after the abort they stopped a mile away from the plane.

But I suppose these things are easier to Monday QB versus being in the seat.

you’d continue a takeoff before v1 with traffic on the runway? how tall is the tail on german cargo?

In this particular case, that traffic is at the end of a 12,091 ft runway and you’re at 154mph, still roughly ~8000 ft from that traffic. Again I wasn’t there, don’t know their Vspeeds. But I’d be tempted to continue and takeoff. The risk ratio versus a high speed abort. It all depends.

Idk how AA is but at 9E a conversation had to be had with the CP or his designee after a RTO. I THINK DL may be the same. I wish that was standard. After a high speed RTO I’m not going back out for more fun. Hell even after a low speed RTO there may need to be some reflection depending on what caused it.
