Landing That First Dispatch Job

Hey friends.

Got my dispatch cert in May. Have been applying to 121 and 135 operators. Have had two interviews with 135's (no offers), and an received an online assessment from a regional. My resume has been revised and I am proactively studying my material as I prepare for more interviews. I know patience is a key factor, and landing that first dispatch job is historically complex....but at what point should I begin to get worried? Any words of advice are welcome.

I've had my license for over a year, currently work for an airline (ground ops) and have applied for just about every airline... still don't have my first gig

Unless you work for a major airline already, you may want to look into getting experience at a regional. Some majors hire internally, some don’t. If you do decide to go to a major and try internal, most of the time you won’t need experience but you may have to be in whatever department for a year or so before moving. You will definitely have to have patience. I was at two different majors, didn’t have any experience at the time, but they also weren’t hiring for dispatch when I was there. When they did hire, they hired a few internals, other externals with experience. I left to get experience because the hiring was kinda on ice. I have a year now and it’s just a waiting game. It’s really competitive so keep studying and applying. Your best bet for now may be a regional.

Yep. I'm aware of that and am willing to relocate. A start at a regional would be great!

Years ago it took me a while, about a year. There wasn’t any hiring going on and got so many tbnts. that I I actually stopped applying the regionals and applied to be a ramper. Was a ramper for like half a year , then eventually got picked up. ( I had zero aviation experience at the time , i probably got hired because the MOD was a former ramper lol )

Make sure someone else looks at your resume because I think that helped me out too.

Thanks for sharing! I'm in the interview process as a gate agent with an airline. We'll see how this pans out. I just need a foot in the door. I was honestly getting discouraged thinking something was wrong with me because it's been a couple of months. It seems it can take a bit of time for this to happen, I am OK with that. I did have someone revise my resume, I believe that has been helpful.

U should get hired soon
(in the past five years there’s new airlines popped up like eastern, breeze, avelo,global crossing ,etc.
Also United is still hiring . So the regionals should open up , definitely wasn’t like before there were less opportunities)
