That’s been one of my favorite parts of transitioning to a late night flying schedule. The cats go to sleep once the sun goes down. Just blissful silence, broken only by Center waking me up 100 miles past TOD.I’ve gotten to the point where I try to monitor guard until I hear the first nonsense and then it’s off for the rest of the flight. I’m not sure if I’ve gotten off the ground with it monitored once this month.

It’s supposedly an old freight dawg trick. I never did it, but I’m sure people tried it.I think it was a figure of speech. Who listens to ATIS anymore?![]()

It seems east coast pilots and controllers in the east coast need a tune up. Just on that side a couple days ago and it’s nearly impossible to monitor guard. Why is the west coast much better in guard etiquette?Between the shenanigans on guard and the 5% of controllers out there (everywhere has the 5%) I just assume that foreign pilots loathe flying to the US. We were headed to Philly last week and Discover was looking for a frequency on guard. Some jack___ kept saying “you’re on guard”. To the point where this German voice comes back and says “I know I’m on guard”.
