That didn't take long... v.Oshkosh

Honestly the campground is as amazing an experience as the airshow.

I’m kinda over the “ogling airplanes” thing but @bimmerphile and co’s photo journal made the people aspect look worth it for sure.

The vibe in Camp Scholler is pretty great. Yes it's a lot of airplane nerds, but also a lot of families. My boys make new friends every time we go. Kids are eveywhere on bikes, scooters, and walking around. The weather is great and everyone is very friendly.

Of course the full speed bicycle collision last year was a bummer.:eek:

You have to love it when a random golf cart pulls up to your rig and asks "is your son James?" "WTF happened now? Nevermind just take me to him." EMS came and checked him out and he went right back to jumping over the berm with the teenagers.

I did camp Scholler a couple times with swivel chair patrol but I was too young and socially awkward to really enjoy it. In about 15 years when I can hold July vacation might be fun to go back. I mean I’ll still be socially awkward but also old and out of effs to give

Doing the full week RVing at OSH is on our bucket list. Agree on the cool vibe.

I’m more of a production airplane nerd. I could walk down a line of 172s and be happy.

Lawsuit? Of course there's going to be a lawsuit...This one is suing the EAA over the 2023 midair, basically faulting the EAA with failing to enforce its own rules. So how many years does Oshkosh have left in it?

Families File Lawsuit Against EAA for 2023 Midair

Gyroplane pilot briefed not to make 360s

Gyroplane pilot makes a 360, and further, fails to clear his flight path in the process of the prohibited pattern maneuver.

Gyroplane collides with helicopter.

EAA is responsible how?

This is the kind of stuff that will be the death of EAA and GA. Pilots/estates suing the deep pockets for their own failure to follow established, briefed procedures, and failure to take accountability for same.

Trevor Jacob was released from federal prison last month after serving 4-1/2 months of a six-month sentence. After its initial revocation, FAA reissued Jacob a new pilot certificate.
You sure? Registry could be lagging, but

(the other guy’s a student pilot from years ago)

I don’t think that’s correct. The article doesn’t mention a thing about it other than in the subtitle.

This article from LAMag, not to mention an FAA statement and the glaring omission from the airman registry, suggests otherwise.

I'm confused about how you can prohibit either of those types of airplanes from making 360s? I mean they do them continuously just to stay alive. The problem was that they didn't each have their own spot to do endless 360s but instead, they also moved. Helicopters are to be admired viewed with distrust from afar, and should always remain stationary. It's like how children should be neither seen nor heard.....

Here's a slightly more recent article from AVweb that confirms the FAA issued a temporary certificate. But that still doesn't explain the lack of airman registry presence now though unless something changed since then

The thing is that the ultralight field is a pattern within the pattern, which is why the ultralight traffic pattern has those restriction to it. Let’s say the ultralight runway is a 14/32 alignment aimed right at the main runway 18/36, extending the upwind or maneuvering in the pattern has ramifications to the other airfield operations.
