Something something increased randoms

The one thing I have been pretty satisfied with is USAA auto insurance. Not the best rates you can get out there, but they pay out pretty well when something actually does happen in my experience. When my wife got rear ended on the freeway in VA beach, they also went after the other (at fault) driver's insurance (GEICO) pretty hard and shut down GEICO's cheap ass tactics, which I appreciated. Like has been said, they are just another bank/insurance company that isn't particularly competitive, but that is why I have kept my auto insurance policies with them. Always willing to reconsider though

Didn’t know that about USAA.

So Geico is actually the government employees insurance company. How is that open to everyone? I assume a similar story to USAA? Probably initially meant for a very small sect of people. Today opened to anyone and their mother.

Back in the day, mil officers would be with USAA while enlisted would often be with GEICO, as GEICO had offices on or next to mil bases. This was before the Gecko and Caveman days……

I appreciate the reimbursing ATM fees thing. Makes it less painful when I have to get cash out once a month for the sole purpose of tipping van drivers.

Stateside they are moderately competitive, but OCONUS they are running miles above a lot of the other options as far as coverage per dollar.

They also seem to be the best set up to deal with the negotiations of a host countries insurance over others at least watching and comparing those interactions amongst the office.

That said, it’s a very noticeable difference in the quality of interaction. Kind of like airport lounges when they open up access to everybody that gets the credit card.

On a related note, Navy Federal Credit Union used to be amazing. Now, kinda average in the credit union space.

Anybody who can join (fed gov’t employees and families) I cannot recommend Tower Federal Credit Union enough. Their only locations are in the DC/Baltimore area but I’ve had no problems using them even after moving to North Carolina

I can also recommend Pentagon Federal CU. You can join Air Force Association if you don’t meet other criteria.

While we are crapping on crappy financial institutions….

Boeing Employee Credit Union can go F it’s self.

State computer glitch caused them to think I didn’t have insurance on my truck (while deployed) so they purchased one and added it to my bill, then billed me fees for adjusting my payment but not my auto draft. Took months to fix because they needed to “investigate.” That was after the state and USAA both called them and told them it was a computer error.

When it was resolved I wanted to just pay the remainder of my balance because why would I let them have any influence on my finances…. Even that was hard because they wouldn’t take over 750 at a time via a phone call. Being in Iraq didn’t apparently matter when they suggested I go into a physical location. So we had to do the balance burn over two weeks with me calling every 48 hours.

Well…it’s been nice knowing you.

I think we all knew what GEICO stood for, but thanks! :)

Can we just get a damned QR code and be done with it?

One of the other captains proudly said “I tip $10!” and I said, “Well, he thinks pilots are morons already, he just thinks you’re a moron trying to floss”

I've never felt any angst about a random drug test, I always looked forward to them. It either meant an early paid exit from the hangar that day (depending on the HR person administrating the program), or an extended paid break in either heat or A/C if I had to go back to the hangar. I also knew with 100% certainty I'd pee clean. I do recall once having to go for a test and the most beautiful young lady I've ever met that wasn't a celebrity was the tech that handled taking my sample. I could hardly speak much less urinate, but eventually I got through it.

KCM is doomed.

It’s been doomed since they added flight attendants who can go ‘zero to hero’ in about three weeks, non 121 pilots, admin people, airline flight instructors, etc etc etc. And then add-in “stupid pilot tricks” like leaving prohibited items in their bags and dragging family members belongings through KCM, I’m not going to be suprised or even be upset when it goes away.

We’ve breached the framework of ‘trust’ on a fairly consistent basis where “All I need are my two hands and a yoke to threaten the aircraft” — Yeah, but your copilot left his 9mm in his bag and Jill, Carmela and Todd on your cabin crew are running an international money laundering scheme and the profession continues to turn a blind eye of indifference.

IIRC you were for FAs being in KCM?

In any case, FAs should never have been admitted into KCM. They should have their own separate van times, their own separate ride, timed appropriately to account for security screening. KCM should be strictly for pilots - those in actual control of the airplane. Sure, there have been pilot issues in regards to guns and alcohol. But on a number basis, the FA numbers are worse (obviously they number more, so you'd expect to see more).

I'll be one POed Alaska Bear if we lose KCM! Kick out the biggest problem children and save it for the rest of us.

Sharia law for airline crews?

Sharia law for airline crews?

I don't know what that means. It's really simple - just follow the simple rules and regulations for KCM. Which includes no guns, no drugs, and no being drunk.

What I can tell you, based on what's happening in this country (abortion bans, books being banned from libraries, etc) that it actually is the Christian Sharia doing it - not moose lambs.

So if the rest of your flight crew follows the rules why can't they use the same procedures? I'm a pilot, it doesn't make me special and it certainly isn't my identity, You want separate vans for the cabin crew. It's fine, everything's fine...

You're letting your slip show Ms. Cherokee Cruiser. I understand very few will get that reference, but those that do will likely agree.

Are you sure you read what I wrote? My comments about FAs having their own van rides and separate van time is to account for going through regular non-KCM screening. The background, training, and job requirements for a pilot v FA are vastly different. Only one of those groups should be allowed to use KCM. It should be pilots-only.

As for randoms, they are the highest they've ever been. My personal track of the last 7 times, 4 were random. This program should not be designed to operate at an over 50% random rate. 2 simple solutions, limit KCM to pilots only. And then permanently kick out any pilot who has an egregious violation at KCM (guns, drugs).

Pilots-only? Hmmm. Nope. You do a job, a job that a lot of other people do, some have done that job in extreme situations that you haven't even considered, and they don't think they deserve special treatment. I think you view your crew as "beneath" you as captain, that's a horrible way to lead people. A good leader will take care of their command group, a great leader will treat everyone in his organization, from top to bottom, exactly the same. You want separate vans and different privileges, would you rather the entire crew rides in a van and you get a limo? I'm not surprised.

You’re not paying attention to what is being written, and not just by me. Derg implied something similar. KCM was doomed once it was open to FAs.

A job requirement to be a FA is fairly simple. 18-21 yrs old minimum, minimum customer service job before hand, and a 2 month course for training before being signed off. An individual with this little vested in the game should not be getting KCM access.

My commentary on a different van is only to give them enough time to clear regular screening. Or screw it. Take the same van time. Once airlines see flights are getting delayed because FAs are delayed, you bet your rear ended they will give them adjusted van times.

Your comments about how I view my own crew are far right field. That is not the case.
