Canceled Flight, CA arrested...Options

I don't understand the obsession over alcohol. It can't be the taste. Is it addictive or do the effects feel really good? It seems very risky to drink at all the day before a flight. Everyone's metabolism is different.

It’s risky to drink in excess the day before a flight.

It’s definitely an acquired think, but I love both the taste and way a nice red wine or tumbler of bourbon makes me feel. Too much, and the feeling goes away. But if you get it just right, it’s super relaxing to me. Kind of helps me to live in the moment and just be where I am, something I fail at most of the time. But it’s different to everyone…for some they angrily crave potato skins and throw lawn furniture.

Good rosé in Paris, same same.

I guess I'm a quitter. I tasted it and didn't like it so I moved on. I cant see myself drinking until I finally like it. Kind of like buttermilk.

Do you like coffee? Spicy foods? Dark chocolate? Maybe a nice cigar?

It’s like anything, you develop an acquired taste and then it becomes very delicious. A nice IPA or well crafted cocktail is excellent.
I used to absolutely despise mayonnaise until my late 20s. Now I’m the guy making tuna salad that’s probably half mayo.

I very rarely drink on the road, anymore. There was a time...

That said, there are 60 year old guys who go out and kick the everloving hell out of their livers at the local "irish" pub every time the rubber hits the pavement, and show up all pink-cheeked and ready for action the next day.

To each their own, etc. etc.

Who doesn't like a good IPA? @derg says it will make your whiz stink but all I know is my wife can't stand IPA so I know they won't disappear from our fridge....

Maybe some butter beer with butterscotch schnapps in it.
It would be so sweet you’d never expect it had alcohol in it.
Or, if you’re ok with 7up you could try gin and tonic.
😃

I mean, from a health perspective, keep on doing what you're doing (or I should say not doing). Nothing wrong with taking care of your body.

I read an interesting blurb a while ago with some theorizing about why the tendency to drink literal poison didn’t get evolutionarily selected against a long time ago.

Evolution works over *extremely* long time-lines. There's a pretty believable theory floating about that consciousness is, itself, an evolutionary misstep. So it's not hard to imagine that, within that misstep, a mutation which makes being somewhat *less* conscious attractive might be selected for.

Who wouldn't want to be less conscious each day. I mean, isn't that why adults take naps?

I mean, there’s by no means complete agreement about the only working over extremely long timelines thing, see punctuated equilibrium. And inventing things like language and culture just completely changes the way that selection pressures work in very weird ways. One idea that was thrown out was that the production and consumption of intoxicating beverages facilitated gathering and mixing which deepened the gene pool. Nothing particularly conclusive but some interesting ideas tossed around is all.
