JetBlue hires violent felon as a pilot

And I don’t care about your anecdotes, I care about right and wrong. It’s wrong to punish someone whose sentence is over.

Eh... having worked in the places that I have over the years, which include State hospitals and actual jails and detentions. Elbow to elbow with sociopaths, psychopaths and pedophiles. That's great, awesome that you did your time. But I don't want you living in my neighborhood. Or hell anywhere close. I still remember when redacted was in the State Hospital and would quickly snatch them JcPenny's ad every Sunday, with the little boys shirtless and in their underwear and disappear into his room for hours. But he's being... rehabilitated. While playing XBOX and watching movies. Giggle.

Then fix the system, don’t unfairly punish the person.
That's fine Todd, we'll fix the system. What do you suggest we do right now? It's like California mandating EVs because it sounds good and doing nothing to upgrade the electrical infrastructure, typical democrat thinking. I know you're not a dumb man and I honestly think you want to help, but to solve a problem you can't treat the symptoms, you have to find the root and either disrupt it or kill it.

Pretty sure I've landed at PHX at least once a week for the last 6 weeks.....sometimes multiple times a day. But I have never gotten to the hotel before 2300 with more than 10-12 hrs to report. I'm also pretty sure that my ashes will now be scattered on twy S right at the changeover to S ground and I'll never receive clearance to enter D for eternity. Is there anything going on in camelback after midnight? Oh the IHOP you say? And nothing else? Or the In n Out too?

As an aside, we should probably rip off the bandaid and just make it a teeny tiny pilot base. It would immediately draw hundreds if not more. Or TX. Open the spigot to Brazil ETOPS departures. I'd move there for that.
It’s funny when ground doesn’t clarify or say anything about the switchover, you call on the other frequency and stop because they don’t answer, then when they finally do you realize it’s the same guy.

We’re talking two entirely different things. The problem needs to be corrected. Yes, agreed. But the fact that it hasn’t been doesn’t make it okay to commit an injustice towards the ex-con.

believe it or not, I agree with your sentiment more than you realize…
But then agian, calling them “the ex-cons” will never be accurate….they will forever stand as a “convict”, unless retroactively proved innocent. Thats why DoC calls them inmates….But their punishment should end upon completion of their sentence…though “safety sensitive” jobs should, imho, still be authorized to be more “selective” in their exclusion criteria…

For what its worth, without going into specifics (a previous job i leave off the resume-as much as possible) , one of the few things that keep me up at night is how many people I helped put behind bars …even the objectively “witnessed it with my own eyes and recorded it” level of guilty; I knew where they went and what the rest of their lives would encounter, and it didn’t match what our system SHOULD represent…its why I left so easily (despite well, big toys that fly)

its a broken system, and I feel terrible about that, moreover, a coward for not sticking around to fix it: but in a profession, such as ours, that can scarcely tolerate even the SLIGHTEST unnecessary risk, with recidivism and established behavior/history being what it is, I still firmly believe its not fair to make others unknowingly trust them with their lives…literally. Do i wish this gentlemen ill, not a bit, do i hope he is wildly successful, yes, would I share a beer with him, yes, in SLC or den if he’s around…do I think its fair to the general public to accept that risk blindly, given everyones different background. Nope

Sorry for the long response, but you know me, and this is something Im actually passionate about (and can speak to some level of expertise ;)…unlike aviation)

Now, if we want to debate things like “drug possession/use” convictions being a hard bar to being hired at most place/getting a license: ill fight that battle all day with you brother

What life sentence? He's not in prison. However, your actions follow you around forever, that's the way the world works. Is it a "life sentence" if a guy fails three training events and can't get hired at "the majors"? No, it's a rational assessment of whether or not he will perform his duties effectively and safely.
3 failures isn’t a life sentence to getting hired at a major. There are folks with more than that who have gotten hired.

It’s actually OK to admit you’re wrong, @SlumTodd_Millionaire…

Elder millennials had it pretty good too I would argue. No one batted an eye at a family from Chicago, single income earner, taking his entire family to Paris!

Pop culture movies actually reflect society for the time pretty well… Movies now are little guy destroys big guy. •s gonna go down eventually…

Admittedly, not having the 'best economic upbringing' I remember listening to captains talk about how broke they were and maybe having to put the wife to work.

I thought, "Whoah, your wife doesn't work?"

Unheard of! Ha!

Damn, is PHX that popular of a city for AS? Come to think of it, I think that AS and UA are the only ones on your side of the terminal.

We do a decent amount of flights daily. For some reason extremely biased to me, getting pulled from reserve to fill open flying trips there. But that notwithstanding, we have a LOT of commuter pilots who live in PHX (and training dept folks too). We had one the other day commuting to work in PANC, which sounds stressful

Scary. After Colgan and Atlas, I don’t care for 3+ failures getting into airlines.

Sorry, not sorry.

People sometimes forget, this isn’t unicorn and rainbows. Yeah, it’s a career. But peoples’ lives are on the line. It’s my personal opinion that Atlas and Colgan could have been prevented, if the right people were empowered and these now-deceased pilots were forced long ago to give up their wings and go find a new line of work. They’d still be alive today along with dozens of other innocent people. Fact.

PHX recovered from the pandemic faster than any other city at least in terms of AS flying. I flew there and JNU almost exclusively for 20/21. It’s nice that I don’t have to go there anymore. Lots of early van rides at our Camelback layover and min rest was almost standard. It’s easy to walk to Trader Joe’s and The Whole Paycheck. So that was a bonus.
