My hometown growing up had service with Saabs in the bowling shoe livery. Once in a while my grandpa would pay for us to fly out of there instead of driving to MSP. Later I shared the pattern with them many times working on my private.

LMAO Cadillac isn't a term I'd use for the A or B. It was a built like a brick house. However, doing short legs in the winter the plane never got warm and you'd have snow on the floor all day, even after several legs. I'd say she's more of Chevy 2500 work horse.
I remember one time we couldn't get in the hanger for a very cold/day night that plane had to sit in negative temps. No heaters available either to try and pre heat the engines...Start it up and sat in idle for nearly 45 min. Couldn't get a PGB temp. ended up cancelling the flying after one prop started send oil everywhere...

I’ve been out to Dutch a bunch of times over the years. To be honest, it’s insane out there and there aren’t any real alternates that are convenient. It really is remote. If you’re in a pinch you can go to Nikolski (only in a small airplane been there a bunch) or you can cruise all the way back to Cold Bay… but it’s a long way. And the weather is just, ludicrous when it’s bad.
I saw it snow like 5 or 6 inches between the FAF and the runway once. Not even kidding. Another time I saw like a 30kt tailwind you either runway. Yet another time I’ve seen the wind blowing off Ballyhoo so strong it was making the surface of the sea weird and concave.
On a nice day though it’s pretty much the coolest place on earth to fly. And even on the not nice days it can be really pretty.
Frankly, I don’t think I have the nerves to fly out there every day professionally unless you’re like insanely conservative. It’s like going back to 1945 in some ways.

During WWII Japan attacked Dutch Harbor several times.I think most know that.
How many know of the Dutch Harbor event that played a major role in winning the war in the Pacific? This event really turned the tide in WWII on the same level as the Battle of Midway.
